Rulang has Parents Support group or those SFE meetings ?
do they meet up each month, networking ?
if Yes, perhaps can attend PSG / SFE - get to know some parents there (those 1 or 2 yrs older than yr child), borrow their childβs past year Rulang papers and zap ?
sometimes i go Bras Basah complex - ground floor hidden at one corner that is this shop that sells 2nd hand assessment & guide books, past year papers. Maybe can ask shop owner - if they happen to sell Rulang past papers ? -

Morning all, just learnt from a colleague that she did not get into the PV scheme. This year, they accepted only 20, out of 300 applicants. Good luck to all that had applied to be PV for Year 2012 Pr1 registration.

After knowing that some of you are looking for 2010 P1 papers, I went and searched but couldn't find them at home. I couldn't remember if we had returned the papers to the teachers.

:thankyou: for going on a treasure hunt for us, Lock. -

I agree that the questions were difficult but my son was 'taught' and exposed to those questions in class. Weeks before exams, the teachers will give many practice papers (worksheets) for them to practise. Questions found in exam papers are those found on the practice papers. So, I don't agree that the kids were not be prepared to handle the tough questions.
Yup, i agree that for Maths they do work on practise papers and the FT does try very hard to get them prepared... but I suppose it is not always easy to ensure that all type of heuristics questions are covered.. and of course the higher order questions which tests more on language (like the puff question) doesn't help either. Just some that we have encountered this year - in SA1, there was a question of guessing the mystery number. That question had the word \"digit\" which has not been introduced in class yet. That was a topic in the 2nd Semester..etc..
A look at the 2009 SA1 Maths Q6 there was also some questions belonging to the multiplication topic like \"4 twos?\" that is only covered in Semester 2.. not difficult of course if the kid has been exposed before but if haven't covered then marks also \"tweet tweet tweet\"Lock:
Alamak.. maybe my fault for not teaching my gal in advance.. me got a few surprises.. :slapshead:So far, I have not come across any exam questions that surprised me as I've seen them in his practice work before.

Hmm... we only got to know about the Oral Exam on the Monday after the holidays :slapshead: The fact that the format is totally different from SA1 was frightening. At least for SA1 they had a few practices for Show & Tell but the fact that the item tested is only given on the spot did not ease our anxiety.I feel that Rulang has prepared my son very well for exam. Till date he has written on aveg 1 compo fortnightly and has filled up 1 exercise bk already, whereas my dd (in another sch) only managed 2-3 in the whole year. There will be many practice papers to be done before exam and they dun cram that in days before exam, the papers were spread out over the weeks before exams. So, actually I am happy with the way Rulang has prepared my son academically.
So far, till date, I dun need to send my son for any tuition, other than Chinese as we dun speak the language at home and I am unable to revise with him.
I was given the topics and areas to be tested for CA and SA, percentage, components for all subjects in the beginning of the year. We even have the whole year's schedule printed in the handbk and they rarely make changes. On the whole, I feel Rulang is very systematic and organised. (I can compare cos my dd is from another sch and all these were not provided till nearer exam dates)
For SA2, lagi heart-attack!! 3 components of which they have never been tested before and 1 week to practise that is times 2 for both languages..some more include scrambling to finish syllabus... this mummy here definitely losing lots of hair this year... :nailbite:
Maybe after this year, I will be more prepared.. :lightrod: -

Its gonna be, but at least they decided to take in only 20 PVs to avoid further disappointment. As for my colleague, she's very worried and thinking hard about her next choice of school.
