Morning all, just learnt from a colleague that she did not get into the PV scheme. This year, they accepted only 20, out of 300 applicants. Good luck to all that had applied to be PV for Year 2012 Pr1 registration.

Thanks for the info silverhorse..looks like next year is going to be another nerve-wrecking year for P1 registration... hope your colleague is not too affected.. :snuggles:

Its gonna be, but at least they decided to take in only 20 PVs to avoid further disappointment. As for my colleague, she's very worried and thinking hard about her next choice of school.

I feel that Rulang has prepared my son very well for exam. Till date he has written on aveg 1 compo fortnightly and has filled up 1 exercise bk already, whereas my dd (in another sch) only managed 2-3 in the whole year. There will be many practice papers to be done before exam and they dun cram that in days before exam, the papers were spread out over the weeks before exams. So, actually I am happy with the way Rulang has prepared my son academically.


So far, till date, I dun need to send my son for any tuition, other than Chinese as we dun speak the language at home and I am unable to revise with him.

I was given the topics and areas to be tested for CA and SA, percentage, components for all subjects in the beginning of the year. We even have the whole year's schedule printed in the handbk and they rarely make changes. On the whole, I feel Rulang is very systematic and organised. (I can compare cos my dd is from another sch and all these were not provided till nearer exam dates)

Hmm... we only got to know about the Oral Exam on the Monday after the holidays :slapshead: The fact that the format is totally different from SA1 was frightening. At least for SA1 they had a few practices for Show & Tell but the fact that the item tested is only given on the spot did not ease our anxiety.

For SA2, lagi heart-attack!! 3 components of which they have never been tested before and 1 week to practise that is times 2 for both languages..some more include scrambling to finish syllabus... this mummy here definitely losing lots of hair this year... :nailbite:

Your child is in P1 right? I think theirs is the holistic assessment but I do wonder why they are having SA2? I always think that schools who are doing holistic assessments will have SA2 or final yr exams in last term of Primary 2... I think you gotta work hard to revise with her. Jia you !

I agree with you... i treat the coloured papers like treasure and its my guide when I'm helping my son prepare for revision.

Rulang has printed all the exam dates and other activities from Term 1-4 on the handbook (pg 44-47). So, actually from the handbook you should have known when are the exams dates way in advance The school will only hand out memo when nearer the actual dates with greater details. So far, I observed that there is very minimum changes to the schedule given in the handbook.

Don't be too hard on yourself. I never teach my ds in advance too. But I do ask him to do assessment bks (on topics taught in sch, never on those the sch havnt cover yet) on top of his regular sch work and that's where he gets further exposure to the language used and phrasing of questions.

Frankly, I am surprised that you are feeling so stressed over the exams. My personal experience is that I just make sure my ds pays attention in class and complete all his homework and practice some exam papers nearer the exam dates and he's ready. Like I mentioned before, he's rarely tested on things not covered in class or from worksheets.

I have more stress for my dd (in another sch). Her sch teachers only go through the basic textbk stuff with them. I have to teach her all the other challenging stuff which will also be tested but not taught :faint:. Plus, I have to get her to write compos at home cos she doesnt get enough practice from sch.

At least, over at Rulang, they do teach the kids the challenging stuff and they also give compos (EL & CL) on a regular basis. I don't have to worry so much for my ds. Currently, most of my time and energy is spent on my dd (P4) :frustrated:

I don't have DDs handbook and past exam schedule with me now, but I do recall some surprises due to the new way of testing P1s.. gotta double check and confirm..

Did you attend the talk at the beginning of the year at the school hall? Your child will bring it back home as the teacher gives it out in class for parents. Its multi-coloured papers ( one color for each subject) and it spells clearly what is to be tested in CA1, SA1 and SA2 and the marks proportion....

But I guess, since the Pri 1s are doing holistic assessment, maybe its different? I'm not sure. Just keep a look out next year.

That multi-coloured stack of papers may not be given on day 1 of school. I think it is usually during term 1. However, the tentative dates of CA1, SA1, etc various important activities are printed in the student’s handbook.


My dd is looking forward to celebrating Children’s Day tomorrow.
