If what you said is true (I still hope it's not), then I am very shocked  .
Some of them cried after they lose their voice. But the teachers still asked them to continue to recite the oral notes on Wednesday (the day before the PSLE Oral Exam). I really feel sorry for the students.
If students lose their voices, how to do well for PSLE oral?
I also want ds to do very well for PSLE. But reading the last few posts made me realised where my threshold level is.
But I still hope that these extreme examples are either a misunderstanding or one-off. -

there are also people from Jurong West Extension going to NYPS daily, and taking school bus home every day
Cos distance is the issue.. I don't really want to stress my kids due to the distance they have to travel to school everyday.. and its for 6 years!!verykiasu2010:
Ghees,
since you/your spouse are NYPS alumni, why create unnecessary headache for yourself ? lol
I know there some students in NYPS comes all the way from JB, and they commute to and fro JB everyday! Not sure abt now, but at least I know during my time there are some schoolmates who do that & I really pity them, imagine what time they have to get up? -

to us reasonable adults, it seems so unreasonable to have such thing happening

have you all forgotten just the other day during the PSLE Oral exam, the second batch of students were forced to stand and wait outside the school gate in the pouring rain ? (Not Rulang, hor) and the guardhouse refused to open the gate without permission from the authority.....remember the 'halal' canteen incident ?
nothing is impossible
i guess a trusted brand is still a trusted brand
what I quoted are from my children's cousin's experience, looking for a transfer, and my children's tutor's children who studied in Rulang. The tutor is also ex-school teacher
this is just sharing of experiences. there is NO intention to paint the school in a bad light -
My dd is now in p5.
For this hols, she has 1 EL compo, 1 CL compo, 1 Sc revision paper, 1 MA revision paper, 1 EL revision paper and a drawing.
Is this considered MINDLESS drilling or too much homework for a weekβs break?
Note that SA 2 is just round the corner.
As a parent, I try to avoid piling her with extra homework not from the school. She has no tuition NOT because she is ok but I believe the school has done enough.
In each school, there are teachers who are very "on" and some quite "switch-off". Those extra "on" will give tons of homework and parents will complain. Those "switch-off" will give less homework and some parents will complain too.
If you feel that your kid is "mistreated" in the school, you have the every right to voice all the way up to principal or even press. So far, I have yet to see any news reported about this school. -
your intention is well understood vk2010 and frankly I'm glad you did share as soon after we had also other forumers who shared some 'ugly' incidents..
the guardhouse incident maybe the guard's smartaleck way of keh-kiang so maybe the teachers / principal not aware.. (I hope the school has no share in this..
)
but really the oral practise till no voice tops the charts of scariness...and hangs at the extreme end of lost of compassion and sanity... like markfch said no voice how to go for oral?? I'm also hoping that this is not true..
meimeitan, look forward to your comments... could there have be some misunderstanding? -

That's not a lot imo. Could be done in a weekend. Btw, how come no CL revision, keke. Maybe more parents can contribute for a more balanced discussionMy dd is now in p5.

Thank you for sharing your side of the story... the homework does sound reasonable.. not sure which class your child is but maybe like you mentioned it is the class.. as vk2010 did mention that he was referring to his son's cousin who is in the best class...and they mentioned top class is where the 'mindless' drilling is... -

Yah, maybe those parents of kids in 'R' or 'U' classes can share their experience.
