Canberra Primary has one score 273. I saw from http://www.mindstretcher.net/Mind-Stretcher/2009-psle-results.html
Ya Agreed that Sembawang and Canberra every year produce at lease 1 highs scorer for PSLE. But that doesn't mean if we sent our kids there, then our kids will be one of them. It really depend on our kids. Also every Sch have their stronger sides, like factories they produce different qualities of same products. Cater for different types market.
In time to came Singapore cannot only produce batch of this gen students who are very good in studies. I think they should also train students who are good in other areas.
EDP used to be more Angmo ways in terms of sch rules when the old P set up the sch which I like and feel my kids will enjoy Sch better.
Example are
School starts at 7:45am, it's ok if you are a bit late, no punishment. Unless u late too often then I don't know what happened Liao. But I really find this helps a lot because don't have to rush like mad every morning and stress the whole family early in the morning, imagine all the Sch starts at the same time in the same area, traffic and be quite chaos. Anyway it's a single session Sch, I really don't see the need to start so early, as per news report, children in our country already very stress and having not enough sleep. I do see some teachers rushing to Sch in the morning
, don't know their rest of the morning good mood or not :scratchhead:
The old \"P\" encourage the students to play. This is areas which I like too. Through play or sports, students are able to communicate and learn to get along with others and learn leadership qualities etc..These are area that our society really need to learn nowadays, many people forgotten how to talk and get alone with others, since most of us comes fr small families n talk to our smart phone most of the day. Should have more of the group games or camping.
But in terms of academic is a bit low, but I think it also depend on which teacher your kids got. There are still a numbers of good teachers who are well like and respect by the students, and through the work the students bring back u will know (getting lesser) But also be careful of black sheeps every Sch have no choice except got to go temple 打小人 :rotflmao:
For me I really don't go for PSLE result alone. Just like u take bus, mrt, drive or walk but u still can reach Changi. So what is the hurry. Or maybe I'm wrong?
Semgal share with me or maybe enlighten me a bit why only good Sch =good result. Or good result =good school. But of course I don't want my kids to do very badly n also not the MUST go RI or RGS. As long as they have done their best.
Some of us are just good in other things beside study. Most of the rich business men are dropout of Sch .
Semgal please don't be offended I'm just writing what I think. I might be wrong. -
Canberra and Endeavour are desired schools which parents preferred. No doubt Endeavour has its strength of offering Higher Mother to students which Canberra do not provide. The ex-principal of Endeavour was highly-respected by all. Canberra is well-known for being one of the future schools. All teachers trained by NIE are expected to teach children to maximise their potential. Endeavour is a relatively new school as compared to the rest such as Canberra, Wellington or Sembawang. The ex-principal has done such a great job to bring Endeavour to be well-accepted by parents in the neighbourhood. Another deciding factor which has been the driving force for parents to send their children to Endeavour was the ex-principal’s leadership. To me, both Canberra and Endeavour have its strengths. Parents are the ones to support their children’s academic needs and not leaving it solely to the schools.

SPI:
Agree - I really liked the ang moh style of Mr Chia. The new P seems to bring everything back to Asian style, which I'm not sure if that's for the better. I like the recess songs and free use of board games etc during recess. I hope it will not/has not been taken off.sembgal:

Really looking forward to the Teachers and Parents meeting next week. Hope to speak to the new P to understand more about her and her direction for EPS. -
Kenny22:
Hi Kenny - my DD is in P3. It might be the same Ms Zhang. Apparently she will only mark the work after they complete the chapter. That's what she said when I asked about the unmark work.
Is your dd in P2? Just found out that my kid's Chinese teacher also Ms Zhang, and most of her Chinese exercise work since january not marked.
Almost all her marking just ticks, without dates written. -
Hi,
Any idea can we bring our kids for holistic assessment briefing and workshop this sat? -
Gluttonish:
Gluttonish how was yr meet parent? Manage to talk to the new P? Actually I think she is very friendly except still new and need to get to know more about our Sch and know what we parents are looking for b4 she can do much. I think we should give her our support n talk to her more often because if we parents don't support her then there is really a limited area of what she can do. I heard she was a teacher in RI and was a VP in AiTong before , so her experience is there except need our feedback. Our old P was able to make it partly also because there are a group of parents who willing to feedback and he willing to accept and make the changes to improve. Personally I think the new P is more approachable not doubts the old P have done quite a bit for our Sch. Anyway he had left n will not be back to this Sch is a reliably, so lets us support the new P and see what she can help us make our kids learning more enjoyable.

Hi SPI - I was so blur. The PTM for P3s will only happen in June. So nope - didn’t get to meet the new P.
Agree with you that we need to give the new P our support, but we need to be given the opportunity to do that. The parents involvment activities in EPS is rather low as compared to other other schools, hope they will improve on that. Some schools also have a purchased e-platform where the interface is like FB, teachers can communicate with students and parents easily thru the interface. Spellings and Ting Xie list can also be uploaded there. Given a chance to talk to the new P, I will definitely suggest to look into these areas. On the contrary, my DD finds the old P more approachable, maybe they just need more time to create the bond with each other
My DD and I was looking thru her old books, and happen to see the ‘autograph’ that Mr Chia signed on her sch mag on his last day. She look at it and said in all fondness that she was glad she managed to talk to him and get his signature before he left. From there, I feel that he has really done a very good job as a P. No doubt the PSLE results wasn’t great, but the definition of success comes in more ways than one.
With such a predecessor, the new P definitely has a big shoe to fill. Hope she can live up to our expectations and create a new legend. -
My DD started school with a new set of teachers to replace the FT and chinese teacher.
Anyone’s class has a change of teachers too? -
Hi,
There is a new MT and CME teacher in my kid class too. -
Common. With new leadership, teachers will seek transfer elsewhere if the leader is the authoritative type. With an outflow of experienced teachers from Endeavour, I expect the new teachers to have bigger shoes to fill. The principal only needs to give directions and the ones doing are the teachers. Think about it. The new P could be the no nonsense type aka fierce.
If the principal still Mr Chia, I will go all the way to even take the chance to try ballot in for the school. But change in leadership, I won’t think about it. I wrote on Mr Chia’s blog comment before that if he were still the principal, I will send my child there, if not, I won’t send my child there. Reason:The one who implement all the new changes in the school was Mr Chia. It is up to the new P if she wants to follow Mr Chia’s original plan for the school. She is the new Principal, I will expect to see many changes and I do not want my child to be a guinea pig to try out those new changes.
That’s my thoughts to share for now.
