Does anyone know how the Primary 1 EL First Combined Mark (on the report book) is calculated? What components are taken into account? I am quite surprised by my child's EL mark. i suspect that is the same for my girl cos her written test quite good so quite surprised the overall marks are pulled down. Does that means we as parents have to do listening comprehension with them? wow a lot of work leh

Can i check with you, your girl Math tutor comes to your place or she goes to tuition center. Is she good? Can i have her contact?

Actually it is not a tuition centre. Rather it is a preschool or kindergarten that offers weekend classes so my children attend the weekend class. But starting this june, the centre do not want to continue weekend classes anymore so the teachers will provide private tuition to those affected by the weekend closure. i get the teacher to come to my house to teach. She is quite good as she normally will attend MOE seminar in order to be kept up to date of MOE syllabels but then she will only give tutition to those that have been taught by her in the centre.

Fortunately the weightage is same or lower than mastery tests, but if performed badly, it will still affect the overall marks significantly.

A lot of hardwork required if need to improve S&T , listening and reading. Nowaday not only children need to work hard, parents too.

by the way i saw a lot of children going to school these few days. Tot school holidays, wonder y so many children still go to school

Not sure abt other schs, but I noticed different classes hv different maths assessment bks of varying std, so it's no longer the case of gd students able to shake legs n wait for others to catch up before moving further on.
It's like never good enough.
But no choice, else wont b able to tackle the tougher exam qns.

You are right in way. In fact, top few classes for P5 & P6 have additional challenging Maths workbooks that trained them to achieve A* for PSLE.

The school introduces quite a number of new things this year. My boy is taking his PSLE this year & it is very crucial year. There are new stuffs like zhouji, changeling, creative writing etc. He is not required to write a lot for zhouji. Just a page or slightly shorter is alright. The teacher will not pick on his mistake & no correction is needed. P2 to P3 is a big jump, the standard is higher & there will be Science. However, P3 Science result will not be included in SA1 & SA2. Do expect another big jump from P4 to P5 too.

Thanks timtim for the information. I hope that there is some sort of standardisation done across the classes since the assignment of marks for S&T/Reading can really be subjective.

Basically she knows the concepts quite well except for things like more than ,less than etc. Normally i will teach her night time on the concepts which she is weak in but because her foundation is good, so quite easy to teach her. Also her classmates quite a few got full marks, so she is working towards getting full marks too. Weekdays i normally will get her to do a few pages of the maths from assignment books when it comes to test, normally i dun prepare with her, let her be.

For your info, P1 students will be introduced to Model drawing for Maths in Term 4.

wow term 4? cos i saw in her maths 1b textbook , nothing on model drawing loh so i thought in P2. Her tutition teacher says it depends on the schools cos some introduced in last term P1 some in P2. At least my girl can have some ideas on how to do. Cos i have no time to spare to teach her, need to spend all my energy on my younger child
