Yeah... sleep is v important. Google maps says it’s only 15min from my place via CTE. Wonder if there might be taxi / grab Drivers willing to do this regular route?
Let’s see which schools she’s looking at 2C. As you mention, sleep is very importantDavischew\" post_id=\"1934758\" time=\"1568169294\" user_id=\"132882:

Rosyth at phase 2A is guaranteed. The popular Newton/Novena schools require balloting in 2C. Not worth the XXXXX.
But how does it work for the pick up? Without anyone there to guide my kid, I’m wondering if a 6-7yo will know how to get onto the correct car / taxi?
Also worried about the traffic... isn’t it a bit dangerous for a young child to walk around by himself trying to find the car?
Sigh![/quote]Hi, personally if I were you, perceiving Rosyth as my 1st choice and guaranteed seat, I will sacrifice myself to drive him to school and pick him up from school personally. It will be a 6-year commitment if you want your son to study at Rosyth. As a peace of mind in terms of safety, the only way is for parent to personally drive and pick him from school.
2nd option - move nearer to Rosyth whereby your helper (if you have) can walk with him to school and pick him from school and walk home.
3rd option - Long term contract with Grab driver. For the pick up, that \"anyone there to guide my kid\" will be none other than you yourself, since you are the parent. It makes more sense for you to orientate him for the first 3 days or perhaps 1 week - depending how independent he is as a P1? You may have to stay in the school till he dismiss, then meet him somewhere where the Grab driver can pick him. Take photo of car plate and the driver for him to recognize, and make sure he aboard the right car and driver. But I think it might be very challenging for a P1 for a start, since it is also his transition year from K2 to P1 to a new school, new environment, making friends, teacher etc... unless he is already very mature and independent ahead of other peers.
There is no perfect option, but for a P1 kid, try to put yourself in his shoes, do you think he can handle Option 3 for the first 3 years? -

It is very, very dangerous for a young P1 child to take grab. You just cannot trust drivers. What if the grab car one day, change driver last minute ... ? Don't make wrong decision, cause yourself to regret. As a mother, don't subject your poor child to un-necessary risk / danger

Also cannot rely on other people to car-pool your own child, because no parent is going to commit help drive your child to Rosyth school everyday, for next 6 years. Surely there will be some days where other parent run errand, cannot help u fetch your child to school, then how ?
Also, don't trust maids to fetch your child, to and fro daily. We all had read horrible newspaper report about how some maids were looking at hand phone or chit chatting with other friends while crossing traffic light junction, distracted by phone conversation, etc or never hold a young child tightly by the hand, when crossing road etc.
Furthermore, now at traffic junction, is been reported that so many PMD e-bike, e-scotter just whizz past rapidly !
Also, sometimes turning at a traffic junction, because a P1 child height is short, become blind-spot, where drivers of tall, high big lorry (truck / van ) cannot see that there is a small child standing there
The distance, walking from your house to reach mrt station, in Total, how many traffic light crossing are there ?
How does the traffic light crossing, look like ?
Are they where your child can simply press a button, stand there, wait for traffic to come to a standstill (stop) when see traffic light turn \"red\" light ?
Or
is the traffic light crossing like those \"Round-about\", where your child must look to the left, to the right, see Both sides no traffic, then can cross ? \"Round-about\" road crossing is very dangerous ! Even we adults sometimes dare not cross, when encountered speeding, busy, heavy traffic driving fast at \"Round-about\", let alone a lonely Primary 1 kid
You worried about road traffic safety and yr kid is such a young P1 child, entering primary school from K2 kindergarten, how can u work in peace in the office, when yr mind is constantly on yr child ?
the only long term feasible solution out, if want peace
- as been suggested by zac mom earlier : rent out your Newton condo / landed property, collect rental $ income, in turn rent another house much closer to Rosyth, and the school bus can fetch your child safely to this nearer rented house
6 years ahead is such a long, long tedious time -

IMO, though 2A is good and Rosyth is good, if I’m not the one sending my kid there, I would probably give up because of the non-affiliation. There’s no perks. Every school is somehow a good school. To rent out own house and stay another might not be too comfortable. A home is a home. And newton area probably good chance to go for <1km affiliation school, why not.

IMO, the 2 popular Newton boys schools that she is looking at, even at 2B still must ballot, ie not guaranteed seat. Why give up the guaranteed seat at Rosyth, just for a chance to ballot? It’s really taking a g@mble just for an affiliated school (which affiliation safety net may change if MOE tweaks the AL grading affiliation system soon…)
SJIJ is guaranteed, but I don’t think she is keen on that. -

As you mentioned , SJIJ guaranteed. So there are the same 3 to focus on. And saves on sleep , a home and affiliation. Have to really think through

My second child is in primary 1 this year. She was eligible for Rosyth phase 2A(2) but I chose to enrol her in a neighbourhood school which is a 5 mins walk from my place.
For Rosyth, the school bus will pick her up at 6.15 which means I probably need to wake up around 5.45 am. For her current school, I can wake up at 6.45 am. This is one hr more for sleep time. As school ends at 1.30 pm, she can reach home before 2 pm.
I save on time and bus fares.
If you are really keen on Rosyth, moving nearer seems like a better option. At least for the first few years. When your child is older, can consider school bus. But is the time and money spent really worth it? -

Perhaps you are in the best position to tell us, having had 2 kids in 2 different primary schools. Is there really no significant difference in the quality of teaching + other qualitative skills imparted, comparing the 2 primary schools?

I notice that Rosyth exam papers are relatively high standard. What was your older kid’s experience there? -
My elder child joined the gep program at p4. Before that, she was in a neighbourhood school. So I cannot really comment for the mainstream program.
I believe for primary school, to certain extent, almost all schools are good.
Two main reasons I decided on her current school. Distance and the fact that Rosyth has no affiliation to any secondary school. -

GEP boys have affiliation to secondary schools if they choose ACS and CHS - lower COP to O Level pathway.
GEP girls have affiliation to secondary schools if they choose NYPS - IP at a relatively high affiliation COP (which would have secured IP in some other schools, preference notwithstanding).
Girls seem a bit shortchanged :rotflmao: -

Not shortchanged lah. The only IP affiliation. Boys have no such luck.
