Are the P2s going to stream into P3 next year? How many HA classes?
-
Hi,
Do u mean will p2s be streamed according to abilities? Well, frm my personal epxerience in my school, it depends. Most schools do "stream" the kids, like group the top 60-80 (depending on class size) in the top 2 classes. And the rest are mixed into mixed ability grouping. Some schools make it more distinct, like sorting the pupils into classes of ability level. This is often done with the intention of being able to cater to needs of the children in the class so teaching/activities and resources are more suitable for the class.
It really depends on the school and how and what the principal/KPs want for the school.
Sometimes its based on their vision of how they want to maximise the potential of the pupils, no matter what they are, to the best of their ability.
At upper pri, the streaming is more apparent as that is the crcual time where pupils need to coached according to abilities. They can also pull out groups of pupils (according to their needs) and have additional or specialised/focused lessons.
Just my humble sharing as a pri sch teacher -

Yes, they are streamed into what they called the first 2 classes in P3 base on their P2 results. According to my DD, there are 3rd n 4th class too.. the rest of the classes are mixed ability.
The school changed their class names this year hoping to 'get rid' of the labeling of the classes, such as which are the 'better' class and which are the 'not so good' ones. But, I think it's not too effective, they know who they are and straight away know which class is 1st n 2nd class when they see who their classmates are. -

Stay within 1km? Singaporean? If both answers are yes, higher chance, I suppose. However, there's no guarantee ticket for parent volunteers, if oversubscribed, still need to ballot. If you are still keen to learn about the school culture, is good to be their school volunteer, well, is still a 50/50 chance. -
