Rosyth is one of 3 schools that have been offering GEP the longest. The program is well-established and has experienced teachers. It is a challenging program, but the culture in the GEP is not one of competition and score comparison. Rather, the students are excited and consumed by the alternative curriculum and the intensity of the learning experience. I don’t have first-hand knowledge of other centers so I can’t compare Rosyth vs. them, but I find the Rosyth GEP and the school itself perfectly fine for my children.

I feel proximity and ease of access is an important consideration when it comes to a choice of GEP school, if there is no one to be the child’s "chauffeur". There are extra-curricular and after-school activities. Coupled with CCA, it means that 50% of the time, my P4 child can’t take the school bus home. Thankfully there is a direct bus service from the school to our home.

            Hi

I applied Rosyth transfer waiting list. next year will be p4. recent received school call got vaccancy can join.
may i know some information about Rosyth coming year classes information for example whuch class is Best class and 2nd Best class then rest?
so far kid current school also good but not as top as rosyth. now in Best class with high chinese. academic result is also good. just worry if been assigned to bad class then affect kidperformance. Then may have to give up this chance as \" in good school best class is better that top school bad class\".

can any parent kid in 2019 P4 can share information or private chat also welcome.

            :thankyou: (

If that’s your (genuine) concern, and I think it’s valid, you may want to think twice and doubly hard in effecting the transfer.

Besides the issue of class assignment, you may have to think about whether the kid can even fit in, especially as it seems that he’s doing great in his current school. He could find himself at the fringes or unable to make new friends or simply being obstracised in the new school, resulting in poorer performance. By the time he recovers, a year may have passed.

I just share my experience although may not apply for your case. I transferred my girl to a different school in p2 because we moved house. She did not like her new school and friends....subsequently, she transferred to Rosyth because of the gep program. Although she liked Rosyth and the teachers and friends, I felt that she had less opportunities to shine. One example is that she was not made a prefect although she was already selected to be one in her previous school. Cca wise also not outstanding. She was already selected into the previous school robotics team (the only girl selected).

So yes, your concerns are valid....especially when your child is already in upper pri.

Just sharing a friend’s story who tried to transfer to Rosyth and Tao Nan using P4 end of year results. The child is third in standard in a neighbourhood school. He has numerous MO certs, is a prefect and in school Basketball team who has won a zonal prize as well. The child was given the second best class in p5 due to random S-formation during class allocation of students to the top 2 classes, hence the mum thought of doing a transfer.

Both Rosyth and Tao Nan told his mum they might not be able to give him the top mainstream class. I guess there is no lack of ‘talents’ at the Gep centres. Hence in the end decided not to transfer.

I agree with you, also agree the upper replies. I had concern about the effect to kid.
When I applied transferring and while got Rosyth answered, I told my kid and explained what I am doing. sometime kid told me he also want to try changing a new environment. I asked why, kid told me \"same as when you worked in a same company for many years will feel bored. So I also want to try a new environment\". A bit strange to me kid could feel like this especially he got good friends and good relationship with teachers.
Of course there will be challenge with this change, and I worry about it. I told kid, I do what I could do, try to get best result which I could. Watch and keep me update how you thinking, your thinking won't be the only decision but would be the major factor. He told me at least he feels it's not like bad apply nobody want it, he is happy Rosyth accept him.
Interesting thing is that he don't think too much and just move on with it, then it's us as parent think too much, afraid of changing, afraid lose something.
Anyway, I try to explore the information, try to ask and talk, in the end put all the information on paper and discuss with kid together to decide what to do next.

From a practical point of view, is Rosyth affiliated to any top secondary school? If not, then perhaps you may wish to think twice. Cos 3yrs later, these kids will be reshuffled to different secondary schools.

Unless you have a younger child going to register for P1, then maybe can reconsider.

Actually is up to u, whether want to accept Rosyth Transfer (since the ball already landed in your court yard), or turn it down.

Ask yourself honestly, what are the pros and con ?

                        Disadvantage ?
Rosyth doesn't have affliation to any Secondary school, whatsoever. As such, come P5, P6, will be stressful for both parents & students here.

                        Advantage ?
If accept the Transfer, in future, your grandchildren can enrol into Rosyth primary, provided (on condition that) Phase 2A2 still continue to exist, by the time your grand-children register for Primary 1 in Year xx.

What can u possibly look forward to, if accept the Transfer ?

For \"Transfer-in\" students into Rosyth primary at end of P3, they will get assigned to only the \"Mixed-ability\" or Average classes, but not to any of the Top (Mainstream) classes.

However, at end of P4, there is streaming, into new P5 classes.

This means that you have one entire, whole year (2019) to work hard, to prove yourself, target to enter one of the Top few Mainstream classes, come 2020 P5.

As u are also a new pupil (student) joining Rosyth, u won't become prefect so fast, because Teachers and classmates do not know u yet, must be patient, be humble at all times.

However, u have one full year (2019), to prove your capability, your stewardship, your leadership. You need to re-prove yourself, come to another new school environment / culture. At the end of P4, if your Form Teacher or subject Tr find u responsible, helpful to your fellow peer classmates whenever they encounter issue, Form Tr and Co-Form Tr can recommend u to be a prefect.

When u Transfer in from another school, both Form Tr as well as Co-Form Tr will read your ex Report card, read what your ex (former) school Tr had said about you, in the past 3 years (2016 P1 to 2018 P3).

Although u may not be a prefect immediately in 2019 P4 since u are a new student, however sometimes Form Tr may assign u certain classroom responsibilities or school compound (premises) responsibilities, and observe your behavior quietly (discreetly), from here (starting point).
So, take up these small-step, tasks well, do your best.

As Rosyth is a GEP school, a number of parents & students here are very competitive, particularly (especially) in those Top few classes, per level. Because come each year-end at end of Term 4 after SA2 is over, there is this prize award ceremony whereby different types (category) of award are given out to Top x number of pupils per class, and also given out, at per cohort level basis.

Now, it is up to u, view whether a glass is half filled with water, or is the glass empty content ?
