The textbooks sold by the vendor are cheaper than popular discounted price. Hence decided to get from the sch. The difference can be more than $1 for some of the books.

I only went to my older boy’s sch to purchase books when he is Pri 1 n the rest of the years, he got the school exercise books n school t-shirt himself. Text books passed down from cousin or bought from popular .

One thing I noted is there is a lot stuff including the shoes n even stationery like drawing block also printed with school name. This make it difficult for parents to purchase the items from outside the school.

Actually the books at the book shop should be cheaper as Popular will charge GST, while the school book shop will not.

Actually it is not compulsory to purchase those basic stationary w 'YZPS' on them. Only recommended but not cheaper or better. Bought some journal books last year but hv not used since.

For book prices, they are fixed by the publisher, so the book shop (and popular) can’t change them. But Popular will charge additional 7% GST i think.

As for orientation, I think the kids need to be there. It’s to familiarise them with where to go, queue, etc. when they actually start school, and will not be lost or worried by the new environment.

That’s why dw sent to buy the uniform yest, so that ds can wear for the orientation tomorrow.

Perhaps can go off early if really necessary?

forgot: i think the orientation is also to familiarise the kids with their form teachers and classrooms, plus maybe classmates. Likely will show them the toilets, canteen, etc.

If not attending, then it will mean first day of school will be completely ‘brand new’…
