        hello!

I’ve been reading with interest all the friendly chats here for PCS parents. I’ve just registered my son for nx year P2, but it’ll be on waiting list, & no guarantee… probably no news from the school too, unless they’ve decided to take him in.

Is any of your kids here a transfer student from elsewhere too?

How was the transfer procedure, & the experience there for the kids so far?

I just visited the school this morning, & I must say I like the school compound with a very strong chinese cultural feel ^^

            parent.parent:

Hi parent of P1, would you be able to share how your child feel about today test? my girl say she don't know most of the words.

Sure! As my DSs don't have the habit of telling me daily happenings, I really have to 'grill' them today bec I hope to update here for the sake of next yr P1 anxious parents like us this year. This is what I gather:

            1. Many English words and Chinese words. They can't estimate the number of words.
            2. English words include 'I', 'its', 'always'.
            3. DSs know more English words then Chinese words. DS1 don't know 4 English words while DS2 and DS3 don't know many English words. All DSs don't know many Chinese words.
            4. They get to watch TV while waiting for their turn and this is what DSs most happy of! So, I think this is good that they are relaxed. They didn't even know they are being tested.

Sorry, didn't managed to squeeze more info out of my DSs.

Hi, parent.parent. Your DD don't know English or Chinese words?

Hi, according to my dd, there are a list of words, han yu pin yin(chinese test) and a story to read. There are three columns in A4 size paper, beside each box there is a space for the teacher to tick. For those she knows, teacher wil tick besides it. Same to the Chinese test. For chinese test, after she read the story, have to answer a comprehesion question. For English, there isn't. After the test, she get to watch TV and a bottle of orange juice. That is all she said. Donot know how many percent is correct. anyway, DD said she know all the chinese words, got 5 english word doesnot know. the english word is very long, longer than 'ridiculous'. hehe...

            :scratchhead:

ehm? Was math also tested?? How come DD never mentioned?

Anyway, not as I know. I will check with her tonight if I remember.

1G2B, your dd is really good at \"reporting\". 🙂 Mine always only gave me two words \"ok lah\" or \"not sure\" for most of the questions I asked. :stupid:

Following \"clues\" in your post, so I went \"dig dig dig\" last night, finally found out from DD that she claimed to know most of the Chinese & English words, but added that some words she knows how to read, but doesn't know what they means. 😐 I asked her how many of them, she held out one hand in front of me..... so that's all I know.

wow, you are very informed. Thanks for sharing.

No need to be stressed lah. I was quite encouraged the other day when the principal said by P2, ALL students will be able to master 2000 Chinese words after adopting this Yun Yu method!!!! wow! So think about it, we only need to bite the bullet together with kids for the first 2 years before we see the light at the end of the tunnel!! Actually, not that bad.. IMHO

oral tests - when I picked DS up after the orientation and asked him about the tests, he commented he knows but refused to tell me more! with all the clues from fellow parents, i asked him again this morning and he confirmed the below:

                        - DS' class didn't get to watch any TV at all, they sat with other kids while waiting for their turn to take the oral tests
                        - some words were on paper, some words were written by teacher
                        - there was a comprehension passage indeed for chinese and then questions to answer
                        - all in all, DS said he didn't know how to read 2 english words (tallied with what he mentioned on orientation day) and verified that teacher did not tick 2 boxes on the paper for the words he couldn't read. one of the word was \"through\" which he said he realized how to read only when he was walking back to his seat (DS always forget how to read/pronounce this word)
                        - for chinese, he said he could read all the words and all the boxes on the paper were ticked by the teacher

                        * hope he didn't smoke me!*

janice_0950 - do you mean 30 words for spelling per week? :!:

i have yet to open any of the texts to browse, especially the chinese texts!

btw, did anyone sign up to buy the pen that can read the words in the chinese text?
