      Hi parents of Poi Ching,

I have enrolled my DS under phase 2B (under parent volunteering) and will be in p1 next year.

After reading about the workload of the p1s posted by many parents, I'm quite concern as I have actually planned to go back to full time work when my DS enters p1 next yr... 😞

Are there any parents out there whose children are entering p1 in 2012? Good if we can form a support group like what the parents of this year's p1 students did. Hear from you guys soon!

Hi coolarse, welcome on board! You are also a parent volunteer? So we most probably have met during one of the volunteering sessions. 🙂 yes, the orientation will be on 18 Nov, 2pm. Meanwhile, do get your DS prepared for the assessment that will be held that day. Based on last year, items will include reading from vocabulary list, comprehension and hanyu pinyin.

Will update again if I have more information.

            Regards 🙂

My boy got this opportunity to transfer to the school, I am happy with this news but on the other hand, from this forum saw about the tons of homwork, I am worrying as well. Since now it is only about 2.5 months more before the end of academic year, spoke to the school whether can wait till finish last term then faciliate the transfer so that will be no distruption to my boy. However, the reply I got is cannot. I raised my concern on how my boy's able to integrate smoothly into the new school and how the school can help, the rely I got is \"sorry, you have to manage this.\" Wow... the school got no empathy for the student. Think I got to try to talk to the school again... sigh... 😢

Hi, which level is your boy ? Other than Chinese, I believe the rest of subjects taught will be quite similar to his previous school. My gal was a transferred student previously and yes, I spent quite a substantial time on Chinese, despite that being her strongest subject…

Thanks for sharing. My boy is in P1. Which level was your girl in when she was transferred to the school? My boy’s chinese is average, based on what you mention, seems like I got to get him to buck up on his chinese a lot… I am really worried he can’t catch up with the chinese standard there esp now it will be 4th term of the school if the transfer is effected. By the way, was your girl transferred during school term or at the end of the term? I am wondering will the new school take into consideration the result my boy had achieved from his previous school when tabulating the final year result.

My gal was transferred in when she was in P2, around mid of second term. Immediately the week following the transfer, she has to join in their fortnightly Chinese " Yun Yu" test. I would say that you need to consider very carefully before putting him in Poi Ching cos their Chinese Standard is really very high. For my gal, I considered her Chinese to be exceptionally good, topping almost every time in her enrichment centre as well as in her current school. Yet during her stay in PCS, I find myself spending considerably time in the subject, and in a way, neglected her other subjects which she is "no so good" at. Hence, at the end of the year, I made the decision to switch her school again. I have never regretted the move into PCS as the school has further strengthened her foundation in Mandarin.

Have you seen their " Yun Yu" book ? Your child is required to recognise all the words in the 2 books before the year end exams. I guess you probably would have to spend more time during the one-week holiday in Sept to catch up so as to be ready for SA2. For my gal, I did the same thing too. I spent the entire week in March break revising the P1 books… quite siong but bearable still .
No, I doubt they will take into consideration his previous school results but guess you can derive some comfort knowing that there are no streaming in P1 ? Which class is your boy going ?

Thanks for much sharing. I have not seen their "Yun Yu" book yet. I am not sure which class he will be placed in yet. I guess just have to take it as it comes. So now your gal is in another school? By the way, any feedback on the teachers in Poi Ching? Do you think switching of school will be distruptive to the child?
