DS is in Diligence. Yes, I’m a SAHM.

How’s yr ds coping? Tonite, sat down with DS to go thru’ the spelling for next week - they need to write out all the 15 sentences! Same for yr DS’s class, right? Understand not all classes do that. My friend’s dd who is in Kindness only needs to learn the underlined words.

Parents of Poi Ching, pls advise how do you teach your child on the CL test ( Sheng Ji Guan) held weekly ? My daughter seems quite ok when I revised with her. Nevertheless, the marks is seldom ideal when the papers are returned. Pls advise on average, how many mistakes will they made, assume if you have prepared them thoroughly? Thanks in advance !

There is no special way. Practice makes perfect.

but I never expect my girl to be perfect... hehe

Hi babynicole, which year is your dd in, P1 or 2? What's yr ideal marks? There are 70+/- words tested so I don't expect ds to get full marks.

So far, ds was tested twice. he got full marks for the 1st test and I think 3 mistakes for the second. The 2nd test was trickier than the first oso he told me for some words in the 2nd test, unlike the 1st, the teacher only said out the word and not the phrase from the textbk which the word is in.

Can share how u revise with yr dd? I get ds to read the passages until he's very familiar. For the words, I do it the Flash Card way. I photocopy the wordlist, cut them out and test him.

Thanks for replying !My DD is in P2 and recently transferred to Poi Ching. So far, I only read the passage with her and tested her on the textbook by pointing randomly to the words. On average, she will made between 1-5 mistakes based on the past 5 tests done. What puzzled me is she can do perfectly well at home but not in school. Just wondered if I should do something more like the flashcards you self-create ?

if she can do 100% correctly at home, I don’t think it is something to do with recognition.

maybe it related to listening, or interpreting…
can she hear the sound from teacher correctly?
some words has same/similar sound, does she know which words in what meaning, use in what phases?

I was told by the teacher earlier that the tests would be based on the sentences she pick from the passage. Thereafter, the kids get to choose the correct word out from the 4 choices given. If this being the correct understanding, my DD is able to recite the passage fluently, recognise the words from the sentence and as for meaning, maybe not all, but at least 80% of it. Though I am not a perfectionist, I do expect her to attain full marks for these tests cos it is quite straight-forward, unlike maths or english whereby you may get marks deducted due to mis-interpretion, careless etc...

I do heard from another parent that she actually makes the child writes the passage out couple of times. Thought this is a bit too much , but her kid actually score full marks on every test using this method.
