Hi fluffsmurfie, my DD is in P1 class 1E.

fluffsmurfie:
Hello ... My DS is in P1 this year, any other parents w P1 kids too?
Me! Mine is in 1H. -
5D?

Looking at what he said about good schools, cut-off points, DAS etc, he seems to stress quite a fair bit about students after PSLE going to \"good school\" and I thought MOE or his biggest boss Mr. Heng said every school is a good school? Kind of contradicting isn't it?dark chocolate:
The new principal didn't impress me much, no feel abt the more academic focus part. I managed to ask DS' FT though and was told C, D, E, F and G are the same in terms of standard whereas H and I require more support. Anyone knows what he meant by contacting PSG for scores of 2014?
My DS is in P5 too. HW wise, I can see its more difficult but otherwise, most of them are completed by the time I'm home after work.
What I do not like about the teachers in schools nowadays is the double standards that they got. :stompfeet: One great example is my boy tried to put in extra effort to learn all the spellings (be it Chinese or English) even with all the homework given and on the day of the spelling test, when majority of the students said they did not learn all (due to the enormous amount of homework), the teacher back off :slapshead: and postponed the whole spelling test to another day or week. IMHO, I think this is not fair to students who make the extra effort to learn them all.
Sigh..Teachers nowadays are no longer teachers in the older days.. -
Hi, may i know after P4 examination, will the school do banding of classes or they will still be in the same class in P5 n P6?
-
Did you have the same problem as in 5D?

Ds is in 5D. Very similar to what you have described. Chinese is overkill. Ds had to do 3 compos in a week. Already complained he had no time to play.

Totally agree with you Gabby.
It seems like P5D students got Chinese composition on every Friday as homework. Combined with other subjects, this makes the kids having to do homework and learn the Chinese spelling over the weekend. Not sure if this is the life I want to have even as a kids. Poor little kids nowadays. MOE so much talks about holistic learning..!!
This P5D Chinese teacher keeps shifting the goal post. Supposedly on Monday they got Chinese spelling (both words/ sentences spelling and dictation) but now (for some unknown or strange reasons) she changes again the dates to dictation on Tuesday and words/ sentences spelling on Thursday.
Not sure how the rest of the parents in the same class felt, this Chinese teacher keeps sending Watsapp texts to parents, telling all what were expected, timeline to submit homework, date for spelling etc but with all the changes or should I say goal post shifting, it really annoys me. With the rate going, I guess sooner than later I will make a personal trip to see the headmaster of the school..
Hate back tracking.. -
I think this practice started in P3. DS just encounter CL2 Compo and EL Journel on newspaper article last Friday . You are right! it makes it very hard to learn Spelling for both languages on weekend already and now with all the homeworks , we are running out of time to learn spelling.

P3 & 4 are only starting to scratch the surface.
Any parents with kids in 5D this year? I was thinking if we should get together to ask the CL teacher to consider slowing down a bit..I asked around a few other parents and seems like only students in 5D Chinese are rushing like mad..
Just over last weekend, we received a watsapp message asking parents to purchase a \"composition improvement book\" and ask DS to bring to school on Monday. I wonder if this is really helpful with all the homework, spellings, compo etc..AND MOST IMPORTANTLY my DS got no time to even relax. And worst still, I wonder if she even got the time to teach?
My DS is telling me a lot of students in the class are losing interest in Chinese lesson and all finding it a turn-off. I think what the Chinese teacher did was just kill my kid's interest in Chinese, worst still they could all be fearing to going school..!! -
