Cedar primary school was once merged with Macpherson primary.

Because
Cedar (co-ed) primary is not a SAP school, so, all P1 pupils study \"Standard\" (ordinary or normal) Chinese.


For \"Non-SAP\" schools -

at the end of P4,
after their Term 4 year-end exam is over,

Cedar primary school will examine P4 students' overall year-end results (for All subjects, including Chinese). For those who have performed well overall in (Maths + Science + English) as well as in subject Chinese, they can take up Higher Chinese in (P5 and P6 / PSLE).

In contrast,
another primary school nearby called \"Maris Stella\", is a SAP school. For that,
being an SAP school, all P1 students in Maris can study Higher Chinese, right from P1 day 1 joined. As such, balloting is intense under Phase 2C Primary 1 registration, at Maris.

Since u are a Bidadarian,
note that
certain hdb blocks like block (105, 106, 108, 109) inside Bidadari estate happen to fall outside 1 km, from Maris Stella primary. This means that no chance for Singapore citizen(s) K2 children to even ballot for Maris Stella, under Phase 2C (which is open to public), if they reside in these few hdb block. You may confirm this fact, by checking your block distance, from the school.

PLMGS wasn’t a popular school, even a couple of years back. SC > 2km could stand a chance in balloting and on the rare occasion, all SC will be admitted.

Demographics changes made PLMGS popular. Likewise, once Bidadari Estate matures, Cedar is likely to be one of the primary schools seeing an increase in demand due to its proximity. With Cedar being a MK school as well, the number of applicants in the earlier phase is likely to increase as well

Interesting as well, let's see in next few years!

All along, in the past,
Cedar primary has never been popular, with lots of vacancies left at 2C Supp. Cedar is a \"backup\" school, whereby K2 kids balloted out of popular schools in Phase 2C, will start to flock here under 2C Supp.

PSLE results wise, this school is .... \"average\".

But now, with Bidadari estate expanding so huge into Braddell etc, due to sheer convenience, many residents, especially PR, are eyeing Cedar primary closely. \"Feng shui lun lui zhung\" once upon a time poor demand in Phase 2C, can always change.


Question :-
How to make this Cedar primary, become popular ?

One likely possible answer is,
does the Principal of Cedar primary herself , willing to introduce \"Higher Chinese\" (HCL) from Primary 1 onwards, inspite of the fact that Cedar primary is not even an SAP school ? Of course, this is food for thought, for Principal (Cedar) to consider (evaluate).

in year 2014 and before that, other Non-SAP schools like
Raffles Girls primary, for example, eg. also taught Higher Chinese, from P1 (Day 1) onwards. So, by the time these Rgps pupils reached the end of P4, they are already well grounded in Chinese, in that they have already \"clinched\" 4 years of Higher Chinese background, instead of so late, come to P5, then start HCL.

So,
can Cedar primary school P1 students, follow the same identical practice, by Rgps P1 students ?

After all,
Cedar Girls' Secondary school, although in no way affliated to Cedar primary at all, still, is a highly sought after Secondary school with a good reputation, by many Psle students staying in the east. Let us not forget that Cedar Girls Secondary, do have an IP track.

Parents of Cedar primary, feel free to suggest to your school Principal. If there is sufficient demand from Cedar primary parents, why not ? Bring it up to discuss, with your Principal. Remember. There is always a beginning somewhere, some day, if u try to start HCL (at Primary 1)

Look at another example.
Let's look at Nanyang Junior College. Donkey years back, NYJC O-level L1R5 admission Cut off point was around, how many ?
18 points, once upon a time ?
At that time, back then, nobody think much of NYJC.

But today, what happened ?
This year (2022), the admission COP for NYJC became ... how many ?
5 points, for Science stream !

From 18 points (once upon a time) many years ago, today became ... 5 points, wow, what a fantastic, big change !

So, can situation change or not ?

I noticed that Cedar Primary, ranked in the 70s, has a 100% acceptance rate at Phase 2C. On the other hand, I’m also considering YangZheng Primary, which is ranked in the 30s.


I’m unsure what factors contribute to the rankings and why some schools are more popular than others. I’m concerned about making the right choice for my first child by selecting Cedar Primary, even though it’s close to our home in Bidadari. I worry about potentially missing out on a better school option, which will also affect the choice for my second child in the future.
