I dunno if this question was asked before but how much pocket money do you give a p1 student? My cousin gave $1.50 but I realise some food in school cost $2 for a plate!!

Depending on what your DS will be buying, $1.50-$2 should be enough. I usually give him $10 a week. But my DS usually brings $1.50 to school. Occasionally when he wants to buy bottled drinks or more expensive food, he will bring $2. He likes to save up some money to buy books during bookfair in school. Anyway, don't give too much because the canteen sell snacks and your DS may end up buying snacks instead.

Btw welcome to the family. 🙂

Noted with thanks... I shall give him $2 and monitor first

Hi dear parents, I need some advises here. I read through the pages and many replies were about the discipline problem in mshs. A friend whose DS transferred over last year was so traumatised that she keeps telling me to let DS stay put. What do you think of the school so far? Mshs accepted DS to transfer over but I am a little apprehensive especially after the interview with the VPs. Both of them were really nice and welcoming but the interview was 90% asking DS about how he would react if he gets picked on and gets beaten up. 😓

DS does very well in his present school and I am thinking of transferring him after discussing with him of course (he chose mshs) mainly because I hope he will have a better grasp of the mother tongue and with a reasonably good affiliated sec sch, he will be less stressed in the PSLE year. The only dark cloud hanging over my head is the fear of him getting picked on because DS is quite a geek and is not exactly well-built.

Sorry canvas, can i ask which school he is in currently? If it’s a relatively good school, why the change? He’s doing well there so you don’t really need to worry about his PSLE score.

And what were your priorities to warrant this request for transfer? If it’s for the sake of having a SAP background and secondary affiliation, then just go ahead lor.

Don’t let stories of bullying scare you. Every school has bullies and your boy’s current school has them too. He’s just lucky to have avoided them so far. There are many skinny and short boys around so don’t worry too much.

Most importantly, he must be happy to do the transfer.

Thanks for your reply, Cherrygal. Really appreciate it. DS wants a transfer because he is fed up with having to deal with bullies (he gets quite abit of leadership responsibilities in sch) and he chose mshs because he has 2 good friends in the school. When I registered DS, we just moved over from the West zone and did not know about the existence of mshs (we wanted a boys’ single session school and thought the current sch St Gabriel’s was the only one). Tomorrow’s the school briefing so I will have a talk with DS after that to see how he feels. If he wants to join the school then great. If he doesn’t, I reckon we will just stay put unless of course another school that we applied to, calls us up.

I think the bullies in St Gab are no different from those in Maris. Boys schools are all like that. Too much testosterone. The only advantage at Maris is the SAP environment.

Yup. I reckon so too (about the bullying). I value the Chinese language and am definitely attracted to the SAP environment. Told DS we need to come to a decision early next week.

Anyone knows what to bring on day 1 for Pri 3? Don’t want son to be lugging all books to school and back.
