Thanks for your reply, Cherrygal. Really appreciate it. DS wants a transfer because he is fed up with having to deal with bullies (he gets quite abit of leadership responsibilities in sch) and he chose mshs because he has 2 good friends in the school. When I registered DS, we just moved over from the West zone and did not know about the existence of mshs (we wanted a boys’ single session school and thought the current sch St Gabriel’s was the only one). Tomorrow’s the school briefing so I will have a talk with DS after that to see how he feels. If he wants to join the school then great. If he doesn’t, I reckon we will just stay put unless of course another school that we applied to, calls us up.

I think the bullies in St Gab are no different from those in Maris. Boys schools are all like that. Too much testosterone. The only advantage at Maris is the SAP environment.

Yup. I reckon so too (about the bullying). I value the Chinese language and am definitely attracted to the SAP environment. Told DS we need to come to a decision early next week.

Anyone knows what to bring on day 1 for Pri 3? Don’t want son to be lugging all books to school and back.

In my opinion only needs to bring the following and maybe a notebook to note down the items teacher instructed them to bring or do.
                    (1) Healthbook
                    (2) Report book
                    (3) Thermometer

However, every year ds stubbornly insists he bring all his workbooks & folders to school on the first day. He somehow feels more secured that way and I will let him be. And depending on the teachers, some do start collecting workbooks and folders from the students who have them on day 1 while they are instructed to bring these items the next day.

                      * SAP school - has a rich Chinese environment.
They start taking Higher Chinese in P1. By P5, they will get to choose whether to take Higher Chinese as a separate subject. In 2012, almost 1 out of every 2 boys get to do Higher Chinese in P5. I didn't see this in another SAP school which my niece was attending in Hougang.

                      * Boys only school- Tends to be rowdier.
                      Teacher tends to be stricter.

                      * CCA - quite a good choice of CCAs catered for boys.

                      * Secondary School affiliation - Able to share resources especially their CCA facility. Got affiliation points - important in times when one needs most to get in to a relatively good secondary school.

                      * Single Session school - Fixed schedule from P1 to P6 - work out very well for me.

                      * Good accessibility - MRT station right in front of the school.

Dear parents, any of you send your boys to after school care? Any recommendations?
