KSMum,
It’s good that you know exactly what’s going on! Mine is so vague… DD told me yesterday her teacher read her a book and she was told to draw her family.
As for Chinese, she has since been asked to join another class of probably a lower ability cos she said she couldn’t understand the questions the lao shi asked.
Oh no, guess I need to buck up and do some serious work with her! -
Gorilla,
No worry as long as DD stay consistent in her work… she has no problem. -
KS mum, where is the maths activity sheet from? I don’t recall paying for any Maths worksheets.
Gorilla, the teacher dropped you a note to say that your dd will be in another class for Chinese? Recently I bought some books/materials to teach dd Chinese and it has been working well. If you are keen, I can share the titles with you… -
Michyms, either from the math activity book or the my pal … i need to ask my girl.
-
michyms,
Nope, was asking my DD abt her day yesterday and she told mentioned about zhang lao shi instead of png lao shi. That's when I found out, she's been asked to join another class.
Thanks. Would be great if you could share with me. I'm in panic mode now

This is a series of 25 books (only 20 books are available in Singapore) which progresses from easy to more complex, difficult sentences. Each book teaches 20 characters. So when one finishes 20 books, they would have learned 400 Chinese characters and how it is used in the context of sentences. It has han yu pin yin so potato mummies like me won't struggle so much
You can buy all 20 books from Popular bookshop.

This series is excellent - but because it is purely in Mandarin (instructions and all), it isn't so easy to execute and teach. But with some determination, any parent can also do this. I struggled with reading the Chinese instructions but when I understood it and used it correctly, it has been effective with both my girls (younger one is 4 yrs old).
Another mummy blogged about using this here:

Hope this helps! -
Thanks michyms.
I’ve heard of the latter, will them out. -
My dd in P1Zeal brought home Hanyu Pinyin Spelling List, English Spelling List and the Topics layout last week. So far, she had done few Maths worksheets, English Spelling format and few Eng worksheets. Had PE 3 days per week. She’s adapting well to her new environment and enjoys school. Thank God, I’m really glad.

Math homework is practice sheet, not from the books.jnemummy, is the Math worksheet from Maths Builder or Maths Extra practise or something the teacher came up with?
I am not really looking forward to sitting there every night getting my girl to do HW, learn spelling and ting xie... But there's no other time as I can't be around every morning to supervise her. Challenges of being a working mum... -
hi all,
Just to share on my conversation with chinese teacher this afternoon for 1 compaission. She told me to revise 1 chapter each week and ting xie on ping yin will start from next week, every Thurs. Currently behind schedule so she will catch up by end of week up to chapter 2 the sound of "W". My dd said she understands the sounds as she learnt from Berries in K2, hope so, running of time to revise chinese tonite, it 9pm when hw done. Will revise over weekend.
Hope this helps.
