Solving questions on 'more than' and 'less than' sums
Type 1
_______ is 5 less than 12.
Cover up 5. The question will then be read as ______ is less than 12. Therefore _____is the smaller number. To find the smaller number, we always need to subtract. The answer is then 12 - 5 = 7.
Similarly
_______ is 2 more than 12
Cover up 2 again. The question will then be read as ______ is more than 12. Therefore ____ is the bigger number. To find the bigger number, we always need to add. The answer is then 12 + 2 = 14.
Type 2
3 is 4 less than ____
Cover up 4. The question will then be read as 3 is less than ______. Therefore 3 is the smaller number and ______ is the bigger number. To find the bigger number, we always need to add. Therefore the answer is 3+ 4 = 7
10 is 6 more than _____
Similarly cover up 6. The question will then be read as 10 is more than ______. Therefore 10 is the bigger number and ______ is the smaller number. To find the smaller number, we always need to subtract. Therefore the answer is 10 -6 = 4
Type C
2 is ___ less than 10.
In this question, we are comparing the 2 numbers, 2 and 10. 2 is less than 10 but by how much? To find the answer, we use the bigger number minus the smaller number, that is, 10 - 2 = 8.
10 is ______ more than 4.
In this question, we are comparing the 2 numbers, 10 and 4.

erm, i am surprised to hear this. There is this girl who is in the same school bus as my DD, she wears PE attires 3 times a week as her mum has no time to iron her clothes. She didn’t join any CCA. Guess special allowance?[/quote]
My DD’s FT also allows PE attire on days when there’s CCA. She mentioned to hubby, exception for P1 cos they might have difficulty changing to pinafore. Anyway, DD changed into pinafore cos she finds it too warm dressed in PE attire. Taught her how to do the zip up and she asked a friend to button for her. -

Hi, my name is Catherine and my daughter is in P1 Compassion. I need help re info abt next Wed 9/2 and beyond’s tests as well as what’s going on. My daughter is worried sick and I can’t seem to find any letter pertaining to this. I’m wondering if any parents fr Ms Nora’s class can help shed some light? Any info sharing appreciated. Tks

Hi Cat, my dd is not from Compassion but I guess they are all taking the same tests across all primary one. Are you referring to the Maths Topical test on numbers 1 to 10 and number bonds or another test? I don’t think you need to be too worried if your girl has been consistently doing all the work sheets that are given by the teacher. During the teacher’s briefing on Friday, my dd’s form teacher assured us that as long as they have been consistent in their homework and corrections, tests shouldn’t be an issue at all. You can always take out the test book and revise with her if you like. Other than maths, I am not aware of other tests that will take place.

I guess you were not at the briefing session. Teacher Nora said the tests will be based on the worksheets the girls have been doing. We asked her how to revise when textbook & worksheet is in class, she said we can bring textbook back for revision. I saw note on helpmate - revise numbers bonds 0 to 10 and numbers bonds.
Chinese test on 14/2-15/2, read the song on pg 18. (not sure why teacher put 2 date, plan to call & ask her)
Eng Diagnostic Test on 27/2. -

The grammar components covered are Nouns, common & proper nouns, verbs, singular & plural nouns and the various vocabulary under the units covered.
