Hi, since I have time now, I shall share what my child and I had experienced on the last day of Phase 2C registration on 1 August 2013, Thursday. We arrived at about 3.30pm, took a queue number and sat down to wait for our number to be called. We finished our registration by 4pm. I decided to bring my child to the toilet that was located near the canteen. As we were thirsty, I decided to get drinks. I gave my child some coins and let her try ordering her own packet drink. There were 2 non-Chinese girls standing near the drinks stall and we said Hi to them. The girls asked if my child was going to Pri 1 next year. I replied her, \"Yes\". Soon after that, she started to compare her height with my child's by using her hand as a form of measurement gauge. She continued to say,\"I'm higher.\" I had to tell her,\"Yes, you are taller.\"

Next, the friendly drinks Aunty started chatting with me. She shared with me that there was a student care beside the school as her grandchild used to study in Marymount before and was in that student care. She told me to call and check with the office staff. I thanked her and left after she gave positive feedback about the teachers.

Along the way out from the canteen, I saw numerous beautiful artwork on the walls. In addition, I saw pianos placed in different part of the school. My girl approached 2 girls who were near the piano and we started chatting. I asked the 2 Chinese girls if they have learnt how to play the piano before and they said they had not. I shared that my child is learning how to play the piano currently and they should learn if they showed interest in learning to play the piano. I asked them where they lived. One replied she lived in Ang Mo Kio while the other replied she lived in Yishun. I asked them why they were not going home yet. They mentioned that they were waiting for the 4.30pm school bus to fetch them home. I could see and feel that the children in Marymount Convent were happy and confident.

I bade farewell to them and decided to throw my packet drinks into the recycling bins. My child likes the 3 recycling bins so much and shared that the 3 recycling bins in Marymount were much bigger than her kindergarten's recycling bins. She shared that she could continue to bring recyclable materials from home to recycle next time if she were to come to Marymount Convent School again.

The culture in Marymount Convent School seems to be very positive and friendly. However, my child is bugging me to get her a hand phone after she noticed the girls in Marymount Convent School taking their hand phones out to call their parents after school or SMS. I believe as long as the child exercise self-control during lesson time not to take out hand phones, the teachers will allow the usage of hand phones in school after school hours. I'm thinking of getting one handphone for my girl in the later part of the year.

      Under school rules 2.11
Pupils are allowed to use mobile phones to make calls only outside of curriculum time in the canteen, parade ground and foyer.

        $195.00 is a shocker. :moneyflies:
do u know if there are other school buses that can do it more competitively or is it a monopoly?

Yes, a shocker, the money can be used for enrichment you know? I also wondering why itโ€™s so expensive.

Hi, I asked before for 2 different route price just like you. I was quoted to pay for both route's price which can amount up between $300 to $400 for North and Northeast route.

                    Hi!

Would like to report as my DD got into MCS successfully! Thanks, sembgal for your reassurance when I asked about MCS compared to other gals' schools some time ago! ๐Ÿ™‚

BTW, can I check if we ought to receive anything from MCS or MOE about the successful application? Cos I'm paranoid and while I'm sure I registered successfully already (via online), I a little kiasi... hehehe....

On another note, regarding location, we stay in sembawang / yishun boundary.. So I'm also not sure which area it's considered... And I think I read somewhere in some distant MCS post in the past that Yishun is much cheaper cos it's a huge bus that ply almost whole of Yishun, whereas the Sembawang one is a small van, picks up relatively fewer gals and therefore the overall journey is shorter? Thus, the higher price for sembawang? Can I check if any mummy has booked the bus already or can just wait until orientation?

Also, can any current MCS mummy advise the hair accessories? I assume gals can keep long hair, and if so, is the color of the accessories black only? My gal wants to start getting ready... Hahaha....

(Sorry! So many questions!! But my gal and I are super excited and we've been chanting MCS and doing the victory dance since last Thursday!)

                      Oh, one more thing!

Would like to share my little knowledge of MCS.. One of my friends (more like acquaintance cos not that close) is a teacher at MCS and she was all praise for the school. Apparently, they do have gals who suffer from some mild physical handicap and the school in fact requested teachers to take turns to provide extra support for the child, and even the classmates are rostered to care for the gal!

I think this is exactly the kind of \"inclusive\" and all-embracing attitude that any society needs, and I do believe that is why MCS gals are humble, helpful and compassionate! ๐Ÿ˜„

Hi, for hair accessories rule, it is under 5.7 school rules
Pupils must wear their hair neatly. Fringes must be neat and above the eyebrows. Pupils with long fringes must use plain hair clips or hair bands. The long fringes are not to be tucked behind the ears. Only black hair accessories are allowed.
