Marymount Convent

The principal showed statistics about the PSLE results during Orientation or the first mass Parents meet the teachers. I can't remember exactly what it was as I'm not bothered about the PSLE grades. To me, the quality of the teachers teaching my child is more important than the PSLE marks.
Perhaps would prefer to hear from Upper primary parents in P5, P6 about the P5 and P6 teachers, amount of homework, quality standard of teaching, or from parents whose children had already graduated, recently.Kopigirl:
Wonder if any parent can share the good and bad points about Marymount Convent.
So far I read good reviews but am concerned about academic standard , are the students we'll behaved, how are the teachers?
Marymount offer Higher Chinese from P4 or P5 ?
Have a friend who is interested in enrolling her dd here, but need to know how the Upper primary Psle results are like.
Anyone have the latest last year 2013 or 2012 PSLE Marymount results breakdown :
- % of students entered Secondary 1 Express stream ?
- % of students scored 250 and above ?
- % of students scored between 240 into 249, inclusive of end points ?
- Quality Percentage passes for PSLE 4 subjects (English, Maths, science, Chinese, higher Chinese) ?
In fact, most of my DD's classmates' parents are not the type to compare marks and stress on academic. We believe that there is a long way to go till PSLE so don't stress the poor child in P1. P1 is pretty relaxed mode in MCS. There are some parents who sent their children to enrichment but usually it is Chinese enrichment as the girls mostly come from English speaking background. I'm not saying the Chinese teachers are not good, in fact I'm pleased that my \"eat potato\" dd has improved her Chinese since coming to MCS. Credit goes to the Chinese teacher of course.
The school focus on character building and holistic learning opportunities which to me, I think that is more important than the grades or the marks. -
Holistic learning and character building are important . Itโs good to also try to get good academic results.

May I know if balloting is required for phase 2C(S)? And if it is, for which category? Thank you!

42 vacancies available for Phase 2Cs. Past historical statistics showed that balloting is required for Phase 2Cs. My friend told me she was SC more than 2km balloted in Phase 2Cs last year. Maybe you call the school general office and check if balloting is conducted for under 1km or between 1km and 2km. -

Higher Chinese is offered from P5. Do not have the other stats you requested but generally the average percentage of passes is higher than national average -

Hi, my girl will be in pri 1 in year 2016. Would luv to enrol my girl into Marymount Convent but i am not within 2km distance. Can anyone advice if doing PV helps to get in? Any Chances? And how is the school? anyone can share their experience? thank you.

Try calling the school at 62566701 to enquire about PV.
As for the school, it is a great mission school with caring staff who focus on character building. I like this part best! More info: http://www.marymountconvent.moe.edu.sg/ ... id=1080764
Last year, I was told by an ex-parent that the top PSLE score in MCS was very high (don't wish to reveal what is the score here).
Character Building is good.
I stay at Toa Payoh, within 1km-2km from Marymount Convent.
Understand that if we apply in Phase 2C, will be quite safe without balloting required (looking at 2014 phase 2C results).
We do not have direct bus to Marymount, and need to change bus to bus no 54 at Bishan.
If Marymount or nearby has Before/After school care, will consider to place my girl in Marymount.
Not sure if should quit job to look after daughter.... -

All the students in that student care seems to be all from Marymount Convent. I paid a visit to that student care before. I had intention to put my girl there initially. After that, I decided to care for my girl by myself so I did not consider the student care. If I did not choose to take care of my girl by myself, I would seriously consider placing my child in student care. The Good Shepherd student care has a good student care programme and the teachers there seem pleasant.
I heard the student care will follow Marymount Convent to shift to the holding school for 2 years.
After 2 years, the student care will be built within the school compound. Very ideal if in future I decide to put my girl in student care.
Some of my daughter's friends are in Good Shepherd student care. Heard there is a waiting list for next year. Perhaps you call and check with the person in charge. I had a pleasant encounter with them before. -

As far as I know of, remedial lessons for Pri 1 pupils start from Term 2 onwards.Wonder if any parent can share the good and bad points about Marymount Convent.
So far I read good reviews but am concerned about academic standard , are the students we'll behaved, how are the teachers?
Monday: 10.30am to 11.30am Chinese remedial
Tuesday: 10am to 11.30am English and Math remedial
My child is not in remedial programme. It is for those pupils who are academically weaker in the subjects to attend remedial lessons.
In my opinion, I feel that the academic standard can be on par with Nan Chiau as I have compared Nan Chiau Pri 1 work to Marymount Convent Pri 1 work. I know of someone from Nan Chiau so it is easy for me to make comparison.
For Chinese, the weaker pupils are grouped into the Bridging class. I was surprised my dd is not in that class but nonetheless, my English potato dd has improved by leaps and bounds in her Chinese as her Chinese teacher does expose them to some challenging Chinese worksheets.
For English and Math, there are Marymount Convent designed English worksheets and Math worksheets. Standard of worksheets not bad too.
Before my child was registered into Marymount Convent, I found out from friends who have teachers' friends to ask them about quality of Marymount Convent School teachers and pupils' behaviour. The feedback I received was that the teachers are dedicated and committed and the students are generally well-behaved. With this positive feedback that I received, I did not hesitate to register my child in the school.
These are the programmes that my dd has enjoyed so far in P1.
