My daughters are very sad that Mdm Ler is leaving the school. Especially my younger daughter, she commented that P is so kind and friendly. Sometimes during the lower Primary recess, P will spend time with these P1/P2 children, talking to them and rewarding them with little stationaries for answering some questions. Heard that the lower primary kids are always thrilled to see her around. I certainly hope the new P who is neither from a SAP school, top school nor one with such huge cohort size like PCPS, is able to continue leading well and producing good results.

Yup..my P2 gal also received so many nice stationaries from Mdm Ler.

I received following from WA chat..it seemed the new principal is fun & nice..

              https://www.facebook.com/hengsweekeat/photos/pcb.714973631874498/714973071874554/?type=3&theater

School is never just about serious work, we have fun too! To end the term on a fun note for all students and teachers, Meridian Primary School Principal Mr Lim Meng Wei told the students, “Let’s turn day into night! Come in your pyjamas!”

As much as this sounds crazy for a school, the principal had a purpose in doing so. His belief? When we can laugh together, we can work together. “We wanted to give our teachers a chance to see a different side of the students and for the students to see a different side of their teachers. Teachers who are usually very serious now look much more approachable in their pyjamas.” Pyjamas Day created the opportunity for the principal and teachers to chat with the students about their attires and pillows. Some shared cute little stories about how dear their pillows and toys are to them. Mrs Stephane Lee taught her students to respect their friends’ pillows and toys.

The parents were happy to see their children enjoying the school experience. Madam Masayu Binte Mohamad, mother of Muhammad Aqil Salih Bin Abdul Aziz of Pri 3 Passion, told the principal, “My child went home happily yesterday. He enjoyed wearing the pyjamas so much that he refused to change! He asked if the school can throw a pyjamas party again.”

School is not just a place for studies, it’s a place for teachers and students to bond over special moments like this.

High Alert - Ambiguous Marking for Science

Parents, please take note to review the marking of the recent past year practice paper, section B. My child’s tutor observed there are several questions that should be correct or at least get 1 mark out of 2 or 0.5 out of 1. However, teacher marked all as wrong and gave 0. As it was only a practice paper, I did not contact the science teacher but taught my child how to enhance the answers to make it more complete.

Teachers followed a standard set of model answers and expect students to answer word by word, exactly the same. However, science is about testing of understanding and as long as the key concept is there, marks should be awarded. It is unlikely that all open ended questions have the same model answers unless students are told to memorize a standard set of answers.

When your child brought home the actual SA2 paper next week, please be sure to review very carefully and ensure they are not being wrongly penalized. Zoom into those questions that are all 0 mark. Ask why 0? Is the answer really totally wrong? Does your child’s answer deserved a 0?

It is best to seek a second opinion on the marking (such as from science tutor), make a list of ‘should be correct answers’, then make an appointment with the school science teacher to clarify further on the marking.

I will be posting some examples of ambiguous marking later.

                  Hi all

Regarding P1 registration, would the class assignment be informed on orientation day itself? Seems like some other schools have already informed the students of the class assigned and the book list.

Any experience shared would be much appreciated. Thanks.

On the orientation day, the kids would be seated with their classmate at the sch hall according to their class and go to their classroom for a short lesson time…getting to know their teachers& friends.

But I can’t recalled when were we made known of the class itself.

wish, i think the class & t shirt color would be made known in the orientation pack. Expect long queues to buy books and uniform. It’s done during their lesson time.

remember to join psg during orientation…just sign up a form…I’m not an active member, but everytime I go for the event, I really enjoyed myself…in fact for this yr I only joined once, children’s day. You might be able to volunteer during 1st few days of sch, if they required. Then you can watch your dc during recess if timing are right…Or if you lucky, you can be the psg of his class. But my experience was 2 yrs ago…I’m not sure if they still do it recent years.
