Imp75:
Hi Imp 75,I dont think the school officially tell you the \"ranking\" of the classes, you need to find out informally through the P3 mummies, unfortunately I am not one of them
The school has also not announced the timing of the single school session.
Just curious - are you transferring your kid to CFS next year P3? Then does it matter what is the current ranking of the existing P3 cohort classes?
thanks for your reply..
Your kid is in P2 right? i spent time reading the earlier thread last night..
Yes, we are considering this.. for this coming Jun 25th-P3.. We are in Woodlands, she is from Qihua in first class.. so I am not sure its a good move cos of the distance, another thing is she can not keep her long hair... This is the first time i am hearing that girls can not keep long hair..
One benefit is CFS is going 1 session next year, this will benefit my #2 girl who is going P1 next year...and CFS is top 20 school in Singapore..
Do you think i should move her to CFS?
Thanks, vt -
well let me see your concerns from my perspective:
- Distance: a lot of pupils live in Woodlands studying in CFS, there are many school buses plying between CFS and Woodlands so I don’t see this as an issue because you will have schoolbus and it is not too far away
- Hair: if you must have long hair for your girl, just make her join those dance clubs or Wushu in school. If she is already dancing outside of school, she can have long hair too as long as she can prove she is still dancing
- Sibling priority: you better make your choice fast and get the school to confirm the placing before the P1 registration opens. As far as I know, parents with pupils’ siblings going P1 next year, have already been asked to fill out the registration forms and informally registered.
- Qihua vs CFS standard: this is something I can’t advise because I do not know Qihua’s standard. You can enquire if CFS has a test in place to validate your kid before accepting your kid? Maybe through the test, you could discuss with the school and roughly know where your kid stands before accepting the transfer? Go have the dialogue with the school, it helps!
- CFS as top 20 school: I am not sure where you hear it from, I wouldn’t say so personally but it’s probably one of the schools around Far North that works the kids hard, may be good for some parents but not others. I am pretty happy with the school and tons of homework!
- Morale of kid: ask yourself whether can your kid accept being #1 currently to "nobody" in CFS? Will this dampen the kids spirit to study? Sometimes it is better to be a big fish in a small pond rather than small fish in a big pond? It works for some but not others? Is she happpy in Qifa? -
This year top 2 P3 classes are: Caring and United. Sincere and Gracious is 3rd/4th class.
-
Btw why are there top 2 classes but not only 1 top class? Is there a distinction which if the 2 is better or are the top pupils usually evenly distributed between the 2 classes

My understanding is that they are distributed evenly for P3.
For P4, there will be a BICEP class, which is considered the top class. -
so based on your experience, do you think the school informally streamed the pupils since P1? I noticed my girl’s classmates are all super smart!
-
as far as I know, P1 kids are emplaced to classes based on their phases of entry. During P2 parents dialogue session earlier this year, the teachers actually informed that the students will be streamed at the end of P2. This was further reinforced at the recent meet-the-parents session.
-
Yes, P1 are allocated to classes based on the phases of entry, however all the "better" pupils in Phase 1 are in one class; and all there "better" in phase2 are in another class, and so on…

ImMeeMee:
Try Tien Hsia. They do follow school syllabus. Choose a school that suits her pace so that she could follow. Interest in the subject is also very important. Consider enrol her into a Chinese speech & drama class & let her watch some Chinese programs.
Berries also cannot help? oh dear ... :sad:babycutie71:
I guess should be same class. I get my girl to finish copying the 2 compos before revising English with her.
Immeemee, my girl is attending Berries but it don't seems to help her much. Hence, I paced with her hw.
Since yr girl's chinese foundation is not good, it is advisable to consider other source of additional learning so that she can catch up. -
Amy mummies with p1 kids in chongfu? What's the hw load like?
I'm registering phase 2C.
