      Mummymama:
      Hi Charmed,

I'm considering sending my boy to Zoo-phonics at BT. Despite the facilties & teachers losing out to those at GUG, did your child learn anything? Most importantly, the child must gain and learn & show improvement.

I'm also considering btw MMI, Learning Vision & Kinderland. I think you are the best person to ask! You mentioned MMI has more playing. So what is the program like at Kinderland. In fact, when i visited Kinderland at Civic Centre, the administrator wasnt able to tell me anything. She told me \"games & play lor\". But the teacher at MMI showed me the kind of toys the kids will play and explained to me the daily activities etc... Can you share with me more please...? Thanks in advance!
I think my reply in another post answer some of your questions about Zoophonics. I've seen improvement with my 2nd daughter when she was in Zoophonics. She was more comfortable with her teacher there. As for my eldest, it's difficult to say if she indeed gained in zoophonics because she has been in GUG for more than a year before transferring to zoophonics.

My daughters are K1 & K2 in Kinderland preschool civic centre. I would say their scheme is balance. My kids are now independent learners. They do their homework on their own. all i have to do is check them.

The teachers told me that their daily homework are done in school. This is to teach the kids to be able to do their homework on their own. They have weekly homework that they take home so that parents will have idea what they learn in school and for the parents to follow up whatever the kids learn in school.

K2 is less play. They are being prepared for P1. My daughter has weekly spelling exam in ENglish & chinese. At the start of 3rd term, they have dictation in English & Chinese. My daughter's Chinese tutor saw the materials ang things she learns from school and told us that Kinderland is way advance.

Despite being advance, my kids love Kinderland. Even if they are sick, they dont wanna miss school. According to them, Kinderland is fun.

Oh dear. MMI Kovan is horrible & scary. But ive heard good things too. My fren who's son is at Ten Mile Junction MMI is very happy with it. Said her son learnt lots of things. She's gng to send her 2nd boy soon.

Hi Chuanchuan, I visited LIttle Skool Hse at OCC. Environment is good, but i dun like the interior. Very tight & cramp. And the teachers looked a little young for my fancy. Pardon me but they do seem a little a \"lian\" to me. Do you have any personal experiences with Little Skool Hse & Tumbletots?

I'm aso considering signing up zoophonics. The Bukit Timah branch is hvg a new class soon on the 16 Aug. however there is no trial. Fees for that month will be pro-rated as there will only be 3 lessons that month... Anyone keen?

          Hi Mummymama,

I like OCC but it's already full.
My son is at Rightstart. They have a gym there and they have physical play daily and that makes the kids healthy. To me it's more important then worksheets after worksheets. It's located in the Jelutung CC level 2. Go and take a look πŸ˜‰

            Hi Charmed,

Are u sending ur kids to kinderland for daily school programme and zoophonics only for enrichment? Is it because the phonics course in kinderland is not good enough that have to go for enrichment class? if so, would it be better if send the kid to zoo phonics daily class so that no enrichment is needed? pls advice…

              Hi Yippie,

I sent my kids to zoophonics/GUG when they were toddlers. That was 3 or 4 years ago. That time we were staying at Bt. Panjang.

Now my kids are 6 & 5 yrs old (K2 & K1) in Kinderland. They don't go for english/phonics enrichment class anymore.

Kinderland has different approach when it comes to reading and writing. But I could say it's also very effective. my daughters can read and spell English very well. Sometimes even read the newspapers & magazines.

They can also read the English subtitles in Korean movies that we watch. I think they were able to use all the things/style they learned in all these schools that they attended. Parents guidance is also important.

                Hi hi.. I have 4 kids, 11yrs, 10yrs, 5yrs & 2.5yrs and i did alot of experiments  !

The first 2 went to MMI kindergarten in Siglap (IT'S THE BEST MMI.. Trust me! coz i heard alot abt the rest esp Kovan coz I've a cousin who used to worked there and i heard stories..) At Siglap, the teachers are VERY Caring , young and speak GOOD ENGLISH!. Went Violin but drop.. Piano too drop (realised he's not musically inclined). Joined Soccer with Arsenal Soccer League at 5 and now has gone to Bangkok, Hong Kong & Malaysia in Junior Tournaments and representing school.

The 2nd went to MMI and switch to Kinderland and back to MMI because Kinderland class is more classroom based. MMI teaches the MONTESSORI WAY (if you have no objection) and progress base on individual child. Loads of hands on work and project vs classroom and whiteboard at Kinderland (Marine Parade). Went Ballet & PIano & Tennis but drop. I guess girls are frickle minded.. πŸ˜›

The 3rd joined PAP in N2 & this year we enrolled in Phonics by PAP too.. Superb progress within 2 months she could read!!. Kumon for maths and english.. SUPERB PROGRESS.. Doing additional up xx + 8 before 2nd term in K1. Not in any other activities but she's happy w assessment books and reading. So we leave it and nurture her with books..

I conclude that we need not necessarily go to private and costly schools, do have a peep at our local PAP. PAP at Still Road is custom build like landed/banglow style offering good program with good facilities..

:)) have fun w ur sch hunting

Hi, I have just enrolled my son to Kovan MMI - playgroup. He is still doing good there. But I am not so sure now after reading negative comment about this centre. Care to share more on the negative comments? How can we as parent able to know whether is our son being ill-treated there?

So far there's been no direct confirmation of any such thing so you should treat it just as a rumour for now. There's plenty of those in cyberspace and I'm not sure why, but MMI has been bearing the brunt of bad press lately. If you and your child are happy with the environment and staff there, then there is little reason for you to feel uneasy. Is there anything you have noticed so far that makes you uncomfortable there?
