How about you practice singing the following?Hi Dreamaurora,
I can't even differentiate the 3rd and 4th interval when 2 notes are played successively. my teacher asked me to sing do re mi fa soh. Sang correctly. Once he played 2 notes and asked me the interval, i am completely lost. Can't fit the 2nd note anywhere either in mi or fa.
He will have to figure out how to help me. I have no idea what to do
Do re
Do mi
Do fa
Do so
Followed by interval going down:
Do ti (C b)
Do la (C a)
Do so (C g)
Do fa (C f)
That is how my son's teacher taught him. -

I am little confused by what is your exact difficulty?. What exactly is your difficulty? Do you have difficulty pitching an interval from a given note e.g. I give you D and you must sing a perfect 5th above it. Or you have problem identifying interval? e.g. I play D then A and you must tell me the interval i.e. perfect fifth.Hi Dreamaurora,

You play D then A. i must tell you perfect 5th. You play E then A, I must tell you perfect 4th. Last week and today I got them all wrong. Especially major 3rd and perfect 4th. perfect 2nd is ok. perfect 5th usually ok. very frustrated.

Some noob Qs… Cos’ dun see any1 asking here
- if piano exams n sch exams clash dates… How ah? Can change date or re-schedule?
- piano grades means what? Still get cert n progress right?
- got ppl retake till distinction? -
Some more noob questions.
1) do you let your kid go back to school after his piano exam?
2) if no, can still choose to wear school uniform to exam? We don’t have a presentable wardrobe for the kid unless tshirt and shorts are ok, are they? -

Just wear his best and neatest school uniform to exam. That's totally fine. ;DSome more noob questions.

I usually send back to school after exam. However, for an afternoon exam - one of my son's teacher actually asked me to take him out of school early to warmup. First time I'd heard of that, but I still took up that suggestion. Worked well. Took him out at around 11am, had early lunch, went home to practise, bathe, changed, then went for exam at 3pm. Timing was much more comfortable. If not, school ends around 1.30pm, probably more rushed. -
Thanks phankao.
Mine is afternoon exam and afternoon session. Going to skip his morning cca. Now considering whether to send him back after recess. -
May I know anyone will take violin grade 7 in coming exam?
Any intention to let go the grade 7 exam pieces 2012-2015 book after the exam? -

An examiner I spoke to before actually disliked students turning up in school uniforms as she believed a music exam should be treated as a proper music performance. While obviously examiners should not deduct mark for improper attire, it does affect overall perception of candidates and may subconsciously affect their markings.

Your son's teacher advice is sound. I also advise my students to take leave from school or leave early if their exam is in the afternoon. Mental and physical fatigue do affect performance and it will be a pity if students are well-prepared but they do not perform under optimal conditions on the actual day of the exam. -

I always thought my girl looked really cute in her neatly pressed uniform and her hair all done up neatly, to go for the exam. I used to do that too (for the lower grades).
For my older boy, so far he's only taken 2 exams and both times we had him dressed smartly, and not in uniform, simply bc it was not school hours. Everything went with our no.3.That boy just doesn't \"dress up\". So it was mostly just neat casual for him, but he always made the high scorer's list, so maybe examiners really thought he was cute. haha. -
My DD’s exam is a weekday morning too. Planning to take time off from school but looks like I will need to bring her school uniform long to change.
