You can get blank A5 size 300gsm flashcards from Shichida tensai shop ( open to public) at their HDB hub site - level 19. Cost $11 for 100 pieces.

I didn’t know where to buy blank flashcards before I enrolled My son in Shichida 2 months ago - so I made them with drawing Block paper -from popular and cut them into smaller strips. I didn’t let my child touch it so it’s still ok but slightly flimisy.Tried gluing 2 strips together but too time consuming.

Thinking of colour printing some. I saw some shop’s websites that offer printing onto 300gsm paper but I think it is expensive.

        Hi,

I just purchased a pre-loved Glenn Doman English kit and reading the How to teach your baby to read book. I'm a little confused on the instruction on what to do after day 3.

1)In the book it says: 'Your child first 3 sets have already been seen for a week so you may now begin to take out an old word in each set and put in a new one each day. Five days from now, retire an old word from each of the two sets you have just added in.' (What does it mean by the two sets? Is it refering to the 4th word set and 5th word set?)

        2) Then further down the page it says' When this system is working smoothly, gradually add a fourth set of words then a fifth set of words to your daily program.' (This is where I don't understand, so when should I be adding these 2 new word sets? Cos the above point says that five days from now, but this point says when the system is working smoothly.)

For parents who are using GD flashcards, could you help to clarify?

It will be helpful if you can share on what to do on the 3rd day onwards.

        Thanks in advance.

          Hi,

I think it means you should start to have 5 sets of 5 cards each to show each day by the end of the first week. You need to remove a word out of each set and put a new one in.

It’s not easy to follow the instructions. I started when my kid was 18mths. It’s next to impossible to do 5 sets a day as kids at this age lose interest easily.

My advise - don’t worry about following the instructions to the dot. Show as many words as you can while your child shows interest. Keep adding 1 to 5 new words a day. Don’t bother testing the kid.
Go on to the 2 word sentences and so on as written in the book but don’t need to stick to the timeline stated.

What’s more important is that the child has been shown the words consistently.
I also bought alphabet flashcards and taught the phonics sounds separately. I don’t think teaching kids to recognise some words is enough to get them to read by themselves but it is a good start.

For mummies who want to make flashcards - great if you have the time and materials. I bought both glenn doman style and Shichida style flashcards off the internet. Look though the retail forum site in this website and google for flashcards online. Many are reasonably priced and cost less than half the price of the originals.

Just to share with everyone - cos I started making the flashcards first and delayed starting to show my kid the cards ( cos the Glenn Doman book said you need at least 200 cards before you start! ). I only made 50 in 3 months; wasting time getting the right materials. Then I found I could buy 200 cards for about $50!!!

              Hi,

For those using GD method, I found this link could be of use:

              http://www.qnkf.net/aspcms/news/2012-1-11/154.htm

for those who understand Chinese. I think also applicable to those
following Shichida Method. I use both methods for my gals.

                  Hi Grapevine,

Perhaps you can take a look at http://www.rightbraineducationshop.com

                  and

                  http://youtu.be/9k6_4emRCs8.

                  I sign up with them.

They have more than 10,000 flash cards, Mandala, linking memory, phonics, random dots flash cards and others in their e-library.

I already stop making flash cards myself. The worst is looking for pictures. all I can find is cartoon pics. They don't look real.

My kid's sensei says I should flash cards that are real pictures. Not cartoon.
Because the child at a young age can't differentiate real and cartoon pics.
