Hi Everyone. I am a parent of a 2008 boy. So from where i am staying , blk 356 all the 5 schools in Sembawang are within 1km. So which school are you all registering your child in? I am having some 2nd thoughts now. Hope some parents who have kids in the respective schools can enlightened us.
At first i was thinking of Canberra Primary. Its the nearest. 100m away! But with 44-45 places left for phase 2C and last year 150%+ application rate. Also been reading lots of stress for a kid to be there. Any comments?
Endeavor another option. Still i believe will be balloting at phase 2C. But more spots higher chances? Should i go here instead?
Then i was thinking maybe try Sembawang Pri or Northoaks. Here looks like best chance of going in without headache. Settle in phase 2c. But are these school good enough or should i try Canberra or Endeavor first since most probably Sembawang Pri and Northoaks should have space left after 2C. And is going to a newschool like Northoaks better? newer teachers and less students more caring time? though Northoaks is a bit further than the rest.
Wellington i really not sure of. Cant really find anything on them?
SO Parents who are enrolling this year, which school you enrolling your child at? and why? And Parents of kids schooling already, any advise?
Any comments will be great. I triest sourcing other forums about school in Sembawang but none address all the schools in the area like this. or none is up to date... Ok :?: 2 more weeks to go to phase 2C... Help... :?: :?: -

You may like to try Canberra at P2C, since you have so many choices for P2CS. This suggestion assumes that you think your child should have not problem fitting in the school.
So lucky of you to have so many schools within 1 km of your house. -
I believe Wellington Primary School and Sembawang Primary School will have lots of vacancies after Phase 2C .... based on my experience in 2012.
You are therefore encouraged to try Phase 2C Balloting at Canberra Primary School or Endeavour Primary School; depending on your preference.
Best of Luck!! :xedfingers: -
Thanks for the reply.
I went for a drive around the area and found that the schools are nearly the same distance from my house - Endeavor, Wellington and Northoaks. Northoaks seem the slighly furthest. 2 bustops away or another 100m than the rest.
My thoughts now are to try for Canberra at 2C as it is the nearest, although 42-43 spaces left. And i assume 2B also will be ballot. Probably means 2C will be over applied at least 150% onwards.
Backup will be Northoaks. I like the idea of new schools. TUR was only 50% last year. Which mean Teachers have more time on students?
Anyone have any comments on New School vs Older Schools? -
For new schools, I feel that it really depends on the quality of the pioneer teachers. I have seen new schools with very young and driven teachers who do alot for their students. It’s hard to say if new schools are good or not, as teachers in these schools would have to build up resources within a short span of time. And as these resources are newly built up, the newly enrolled kids would be the ones they try on. Most of the time, the resources would keep changing after a short period of use as the flaws usually show up only after being used.
The first few batches of their psle students would also be their gauge and feel of the general cohort, and see how they can improve.
That said, I am not saying that new schools are no good, just that there are some cons that older schools may not have.
Hope this helps.
