It’s always so heartening to see so many of our parents making time to be with their children and us at school events. Good job! Keep it up! Your presence and support mean a lot to your children and us. :boogie:
We’ll continue to look into continuing with this tradition as best as we can when the school expands, with the additional 8th class opened up for P1s next year due to an increase in the demand for our school. Next year, we’ll welcome another 240 West Springers and their parents to our family.
We look forward to West Spring being an even more vibrant school, with the addition of our new family members. :celebrate: -

Just my thoughts:
My hubby & I are also working parents who work shifts. We have 2 children in 2 different schools and thus have twice the number of events and field trips to attend.
How we do it is this: we both take turns to attend the events.
So far this year, we have missed 3 West Spring events.
It’s true we have to be responsible workers but above all we should be responsible towards our children too.
West Spring is the only school I know of that actually open their doors widely to parents and I commend the staff of West Spring for this.
The school has also given us the dates of all their events months ahead, and I believe this gives us ample time to plan our leave.
Just my two cents worth.

we dont get lots holidays from company. if we put leave in it means not so many day left to do holiday with family.
i cant take 1 hour leave, it mean half day go very fast.
i work in restaurant, lunch times very busy. hubby work in construction in tampines area.
we r resposible to our child that reason we work to provide.
i only ask the school not lots of eevents for parents. otherwize the kidz feel sad there parents cant make it. -

My gal says shes enjoys the sports day lots. But please keeps the events to a limit for parentss to atend. Manys of us haves to works and cant take time of. My gal gets very sad when we are not there. Goods for involving parents but please make events mainly for kids only. bcause many kids will get sad that there parents cant make it. its ok for parents not work but pleases considers all.

We believe that we’d responded to the matter brought up by you some months ago with regard to our school’s practice in embracing parents in as many of our school activities as possible.
The invitations to the school events are made by us and at the end of the day, parents make the decision on whether they’re able to support their children and the school in these events. They’re not compulsory. So, this gives parents the flexibility in making the decision.
Indeed, this dilemma which you face will also be a good teachable moment for your child to understand that due to your work commitments, you’ll not be able to be present for most of the school events. This will help to build the character of your child and provide you with a good opportunity to explain to her that even though you may not be able to be present all the time for school events, you do show your care and love for her in many other ways. :hugs:

I’m also a working mummy same as u, I only have 14 days of annual leaves. I had missed quite a lot of events too and I know is up to individual to decide whether to attend or not as all the events is not compulsory. So far no problem for my son, he is ok when we explained nicely to him why we can’t attend.
I understand how u feel when seeing your girl feel upset.
I think is not very nice to request the school to limit the events for parents to attend just because we as a working parents cannot attend. I choose not to interfere all the events planned by the school. As for me, I just select a few big events like Chinese new year celebration and sports day to attend. -

I do understand how you feel as we are working parents as well. It truly is a dilemma. My heart goes out to you as it is upsetting when a young child gets emotional when their parents are unable to attend a special event. Please understand that the school is trying its very best to encourage all parents to attend these events. However, it is not compulsory and the school does not expect that all parents are able to attend. They only wish to include the parents into the school life of their children. It is heartening to see the school doing this, especially as most schools prefer to keep the events only for their students and not for the parents.
West Spring Primary is a family friendly school, where it considers all parents and guardians to be an essential partner with the school. I believe, which I am sure you do as well, the school is doing an amazing job with the children. If you were unable to attend an event, the school keeps parents updated on its website with photos of the occassion.
Please do not feel disheartened that you are not able to be there at every event. In the years to come your daughter will understand. In the meantime, keep reassuring her on how much you would like to be there but it is difficult due to your work commitments.

There’ll be a simple Teachers’ Day celebration next Thursday, 4 September 2014, in our school hall.
Parents had already been issued a note on this matter via their children a few days ago.
Parents are invited to join us for this celebration and may enter our school at 12.45pm on that day. :hi5:
Parents have also been advised not to purchase any gifts for teachers during Teachers’ Day but to encourage their children to make cards for their teachers. :love:

How I wish the school my child will be attending would be as open in communication and welcome the involvement of parents as west spring! Most parents don’t see the hard work which the organizer (in this case, west spring) puts in when inviting parents to the school activities. It’s a thankless job.
As wsp grows, there will come a time when it is no longer feasible to invite parents. Cherish the opportunity while it lasts.
