Hi Victorian, a question please, if I may. I saw in the website that Sec3 boys in VS have to take Physics, Chem and Biology. Is there a choice for any combination of 2 science subjects? I saw that they have it in some other schools. My son tends to incline towards the sciences, still, I am not too sure if he can handle all 3..... :?

Yes, there is a choice for a combination of 2 science subjects. There are only two main triple science classes, and a handful of triple science students split among the other classes. However, if I'm not wrong, 2 science subjects only include Physics and Chemistry. Biology is a 'triple science-only' subject. His sec 1/2 results must first be good to be eligible for triple science, then you'll have options.

          Hi prancingpony,

I wouldn't want to reveal too much otherwise it'll spoil the fun and suspense for your son. Basically, it is a three-day-two-night stay-in camp. The boys will be sleeping in sleeping bags under a constructed shelter. (Used to be 10 boys in a small tent, but it has improved. ) The first day is usually the administrative stuff and some ice-breaking/team-building games. The second day is usually PT and confidence courses, e.g. rock climbing. There is probably also some skit preparation and the campfire at the end. The third day is mainly cleaning up and preparing to go home. There will be lots and lots of school cheers over the three days that they'll probably stick with him for a long time after the camp. The camp is led mainly by the PE dept and the secondary 3/4 student leaders (red shirts/black shirts). This is a general overview of the camp. If you really really want more spoilers, then let me know again.

            Hi prancingpony,

My son attended the school camp last year. He totally enjoyed it!

We actually viewed the on-going activities of the camp from http://edge2009.blogspot.com/.

After one year, I am very happy and proud that VS has transformed him to a mature, confident and cheerful boy!

Lots of encouragement from teachers and peers. He's most willing to wake up early and hopes to go to school every day!

Victorian, thank you, thank you! Getting all these info helps this kiasu mum! My son is not the outdoor sort - except for the occasional cycling and soccer - and I worry how he will fit in. He can't run, can't climb and can't swim!! Hopefully he will not come back with low self-esteem. šŸ™

                Hi happymum8,

THANK YOU so much for the website! I couldn't seem to find anything else except info on the campsite only. This blog gives me a visual insight into the on-goings in camp. I am more relaxed and I feel I have chosen a school with a right environment to suit my child's needs. Hopefully, like your son, he too will grow to be a confident boy! All the best!

My son was very excited to be able to get into VS. He was very eager to buy his books, uniforms and PE attire as soon as he got his posting results. He is looking forward to Orientation Day next week and the Orientation Camp when school reopens. By the way, does anyone know the attire for Orientation Day next week? Is the bright yellow PE t-shirt and black PE shorts with school socks ok? The VS school uniform is a lot more confusing than his primary school uniform (wearing a tie, pinning on school badge, school socks, long/short trousers, belt? I heard there is a house t-shirt too.) I guess he has to learn from his seniors. Congrats to the new VS boys, or as they call themselves, Victorians!

                    Welcome to VS!!!

During last year, for the camp, the boys wore yellow t-shirts and black shorts.

As for the 1st day of school, they wore the school uniform.

Have an enjoyable journey in VS!!!

                      Hi dadmum123,

Glad that our sons are in the same school and look forward to more sharing with you in future. For orientation day next week, it's T-shirt, black shorts and VS socks which is the PE attire. All info can be found in the folder given. Alternatively, they can wear their primary school PE attire. However, IMHO, since they are in the new school and a Victorian, as DS3 proudly declares on his way home, it's better to wear the new school attire and show pride in being part of the school. DS3 carried the heavier stuff and let me board the bus 1st etc yesterday cos he said that he is now a gentleman and has to act like one šŸ˜Ž For sec 1 and 2, they wear shorts. Long pants are for older boys from sec 3 onwards which is the standard for all secondary schools. I was told that they are allowed to wear track shoes provided they are 70% white. Heard that there will be 10 classes with 35 students each. This is better than TKSS which has 41 students in a class. šŸ˜‰
I am in 2 mind about joining the PSG.

Aiya, then maybe my son should have applied for VS as first choice? :?

Actually it was I who highlighted that he is the last of the cohort, and that made him not select for the school.
                        He selected TKSS.
41-35=6, anyway not much of a difference.
If it were 25-30 students per class, then i would be sore.....
