Hi MerlionInGermany. Ya, most will suggest RI, Dunman or SJI or Nan Chiau. Some of them don’t even know about CHS & most was surprise when we told them the score needed to get in was around 250. Actually we never heard of CHS until 1 of the ex-student recommended it & ask us to check it out

:scared:

Not surprising that CHS is unheard of. I mean, they only count 1 of out 3 PMs in Singapore (the other 2 coming from RI) as her alumni (P/S: 1 of the PM SPECIFICIALLY send his son to CHS, who would then become a PM, because he find this school more suitable than his own Alma Mater).

Hey floppy, I am surprised that CHS is unheard of by yourself 🙂

It is one of the pioneer schools with a long history, which used to be situated in town, together with RI, SJI, CHIJ.
Then, during my time when I did PSLE, it became one of the SAP schools that took in the top 10% of students from each PSLE cohort, to do 2 languages as 1st language, together with other SAP schools eg Hwa Chong, Nanyang Girls, St Nicholas Girls etc

When I mentioned CHS to anybody (whether English educated friends, Chinese educated friends, customers who are senior citizens, any random persons who tried to strike up conversations by asking what schools my kids went to), all have heard of it, and all said it is a good school and the students are humble and well mannered.

I also have another son in a nearby top secondary school, and the respond that I get are \"wah, must be very stressful/competitive\" :)
haha, not Master Floppy unheard lah, he is being sarc.....

I thought my comment, “there are also not many “more reputable” schools than CHS (you can probably count them with your hands)” is a giveaway.

P/S: I passed by the school regularly - same for the other top secondary school nearby. So even though I have never heard of CHS and the top secondary school nearby, I see them often enough 😂

By the way, FatherOfSon, if you wanna know more about CHS (or you want your friends to learn more about CHS), go to Toggle and search for the programme “When the bell rings (钟声响起时)”.

Season 1 Episode 6 双轨火车 is about CHS.

FYI FatherOfSon,

This is CHS cop for this year, obtained from moe website. As you can see, there are boy(s) who got 267 & chose CHS.
https://postimg.cc/kDkLNWWW

This is Nan Chiau cop for this year. The student(s) who got 266 probably stay in SK & prefer not to travel far although he/she could have gone to any top schools.
https://postimg.cc/GHSnbTHS

But we couldn’t say the same for that 267 boy(s) who chose CHS, could we?
Since there’s a better top school within walking distance from CHS. So distance is definitely not a factor but other X factors that attracted the boy(s).

Nothing wrong with your friends suggesting other schools for your son, but pretty shocking (& unbelievable) that you & your friends have not heard of Catholic High School.

If you’re keen to learn more about CHS, you can follow the school on Facebook and Instagram ;

Ya, my boy & I really like that ‘when the bell rings’ series & learn a lot from it!

Maybe it’s the bunch I mix with I guess. Most of them was eyeing those schools for their kid & now recommending them to me. My guess is maybe NCSC was the best around SK area & dunman is the best co-Ed. Btw, are there any different in the kids that goes to co-Ed or pure boy school?

But during the few open-house we went to, I must say that CHS boys seems to be more refine & really stands out from the others. Not like what others say that boys from boy school are more rough.

Hi

Any experienced parents and kind folks in this forum can share more about the IP programme in Catholic High?
How demanding is it in Cat High?
Does it prepare the boys with a solid foundation for Yr 5 and Yr6 in EJC?
How different (and similar) is the school’s IP programme from its OP track? etc.
If a pupil’s results are generally in the range from low 80s to mid 80s for all 4 core subjects in p5 & p6 with say just a pass in HCL, do you think it will be tough on him to go through its IP programme via DSA (non-sports related CCA)?
Just a newbie here, hoping to hear some views and experiences from the perspective of experienced parents or if you have knowledge in this area to share.
Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone,

Anyone’s DS is aiming or CO to CHS?

My DS is CO to CHS and I hope to get to know more parents here so that we can share some info and regular updates.

TIA

Just to share.

We went to visit the schools’ open house and decided to apply for CHS instead of NCHS (we stay in Sengkang), cos my DS prefers CHS. We all felt very comfortable with the school environment and also the boys in CHS are really more refine and stands out from the others.

We did not apply for DHS, VS, TJC, NUSH cos it is really very inconvenient to commute from my place. These are all good schools but too bad it is too far away.

We applied for RI and was shortlisted. However, we all felt the stress there. Humble cannot be found in RI. Even as parents, I felt the stress when I heard parents talking among themselves and all competing what medals their DS achieved from the Olympiad etc etc. Hence, we decided to drop RI cos we felt that the child must enjoy his learning process and not be stressed by these external factors.

We applied for HCI too but was not successful cos my DS doesn’t has the "platinum" medal from Olympiad. Another stressful school to be in.

So we are definitely accepting the CO by CHS.
Hope to know other CHS parents here too.

Good day ahead.
