Looks like it is true that NUSH does not care much about languages. But I still prefer my kid to go to schools with longer history where they will have senior or alumni to take care of them in the working world. And during school life, they can enjoy cheering for their school team. That kind of normal life style which I used to enjoy.

These guys are suppose to be the cream of the crop. They do not need alumni to take care of them in the working world. If they need that, then the school have not trained them well. In the real working world it does not work that way, only the fittest survive - alumni has little or no impact.

I can understand if they need guidance and seniors to care for them during their school life. Comparing HCI/RI/NUSH, HCI is perhaps the best known in this aspect.

By the way, most if not all of the \"Cream\" normally ends up in the top 4; RI/RGS/HCI/NYGS. :lol:

I agree that networking and \"kwan xi\" has its influence but I think there is much more to networking and kwan xi than just being a alumni.

Actually my experience shows that if everything being equal, chances will be given to those from the same school.
It is also pretty natural for me to pay more attention to the resume coming from my old school.

In my opinion, if you think your child can make it to top schools like RI /HCI/ RV / DHS etc, I do not think they will have problem with HCL. You never know if they can cope with it or not, unless you give them a chance to try out. Many of the subjects will be new to them, anyway, so what's another HCL, given their ability ? I notice that secondary CL lessons can be more engaging and fun than primary CL lessons. It could be a chance for the child to switch from \"dislike the subject\" to \"like the subject\". No doubt there will be many more ciyu and chengyu to learn, but if the child likes the subject, there will be no complaint.

Quite agree with lizawa. I have seen students who cannot speak good Mandarin, still get A or A* for Chinese PSLE. Those chinese activities I listed in the the other thread, may sound \"scary\" but I think kids can adapt well. Like my girl told me, intitally 100 words of reflections look lengthy and difficult. After adapting to it, now, with 1000 words to write, its nothing, because they have get used to it. With lots of enouragement, interest can be build up.

With the cream of the crop going to RI/RGS/HCI/NYGS, NUSH is probably left with the 2nd or 3rd tier students.

Despite that, and despite being smaller in size, they have been regularly and consistently winning math and science awards at national and international competitions. This year, they won top school for A* talent search, was top school for junior maths olympics and won awards at many other international olympics. These winning do not seem to be a one time affair but happening with regularity.

These awards are traditionally the domain of the top 4 schools (RI/RGS/HCI/NYGS). These 4 traditional powerhouses are slowly seeing many of their awards in the academic areas of maths and science taken or shared by NUSH, a new kid on the block. Given the competitive nature of these 4 schools, it would be interesting to see how these schools prepare themselves to meet the new competition.

Being good in only Math is pretty one-dimensional, I think. Holistic is the way to go.
