[quote=\"verykiasu2010a combination of english and mandarin, no worry, group interview, quite fun

the interview is not to test the student, just to get the students to talk about themselves ...... probably just to ensure they are not mute :rotflmao:
      Hi

The interview/group dialogue are carried out in English and Mandarin? Confirm? My DS cannot make it in mandarin dialogue.

I checked with the teachers and admin during the open house. They mentioned the interview/group dialogue are done only in English. Seems there is a different.

Can anyone who their DS gone through the process able to share? How is the whole session go?

      Thank you
      BD[/quote]

For last year, interview was in group of 3. Yep, in both English and Chinese. It was a free response session. My DS was from mainstream.

Oh ya ... For HCI, gep domain applicants no need to take GAT right ?

          Hi

To my understanding, all the DSA applicants do not need to GAT. They only need to take one or more of the following tests. I guess they do not believe in GAT or HAST.

          1) Free respnse writing test
          2) English test
          3) Chinese test
          4) Science test
          5) Math test

          BD

Perhaps it is because GE students already went thru the GAT screening at P3. GE students if selected by HCI will automatically be placed in SBGE at ispark. However, non-GE students, they will be given GAT. If they score well, they will also be placed in ispark if they are selected via dsa. However for mainstreamers who previously been selected for GE in P3 but did not take up the offer, not sure if they need to sit for GAT again.

Hi blurdad, if your son's Mandarin conversation skills 'cannot make it', do you think HCI is a wise choice for him?

Unlike last time, students at HCI nowadays mainly speak English. Most kids can get thru PSLE CL with at least an A and they have no problem suviving there with their HCL. They create oppunities to \"force\" them to speak and use the two languages with their oral participation scheme, newspaper reading, interview and current affair, of course they will be trainned first. So very likely you will see your kids improve in both languages over time. Moverover, heard they also get the students to do conversational Malay at sec 2.

              Hi jtoh

Good question. Attended HCI open house, quite impressive. My son quite \"OK\" with it.

Base on different choices available, not many to choose from. He wants to go to boy's school. So for IP/IB, the choices are RI, HCI and ACSI. His CA1+SA1 result not so good, below 80%, chances to get CO from RI is quite low. As for ACSI, not that easy also, ACSI only takes in 90 boys for DSA to their IB programme. Take into consideration that they have to give priority to ACS(P) and ACS(J) boys. The other choice that should not miss is HCI.

I remember last year that there was one parent feel regarded and had to say sorry to his/her DS for not applying HCI as DS could not get CO from RI. Most of his/her DS's classmate were awarded CO and he is one of the fews who did not get any. So quite a greate impact to him.

You might say that this would encourage DS to work harder for the PSLE and get good result to enter his dream school via S1 posting, I think my DS is not that type and do not wish my DS has to go through this. So should not miss any chance.

Hi blur dad, I can understand how u feel and sincerely think that your ds should stand a better chance for HCI if no confi with RI.

                Good luck to our kids!!!

My son has not much interest in Chinese at all even though he is in a SAP school. That's why we never opted for HCI but tried NJC instead.

For starter I don't think he can get thru an interview in Chinese.

Hi all, here are two questions I gather.

                        (1) How important is IRS project done at P5 to DSA or affecting over performance for for DSA application?

                        (2) GE students who did not get DSA offer but use T-score to gain administration to Independent IP sch, will they still be given EESIS if their T-score miss the COP?

                        Anyone know?
