Seems like not many here have applied for Victoria School, Cedar Girls', River Valley, or Dunman High? Don't seem to hear much of these few schools, especially the new IP ones.

We were choosing between NJC and RV since both are about same distance from home. Furthermore both have SBGE not on the MOE list but both have cheap school fees anyway.
Opted for NJC because the COP for S1 is higher for NJC and also class size is smaller.

ngbrdad, we are on the same page, if goes thru successfully, then good for child

                    Hi Blur Dad,

understand how you feel. My DS is only in P5 now. I'm already starting to get worry for him. As at now, he still manage to get 80% but in recent SA1, he did not do well for English. Am afraid may drop < 80% by next year. I know he wanted to try RI. So I suggested to him to try RI, HCI & ACI. I thought it's easier for ACI since most boys will choose RI & HCI. I reckon that NUSH is tougher than ACI.
ACSI takes in only 90 and some priority to ACS primary and ACS junior boys. So not so easy.

Wah, can you decide which instrument? hehe.... But I guess if you want \"all of the above\", you can try Dunman High. ;D

But if you are more specific, maybe can advise further, eg. for boy or girl and which instrument(or at least more details - eg. basically trained in violin, but plays cello in string ensemble plus guzheng in chinese orchestra - wow, if that's the case - 2 CCAs!).

[quote=\"jtoh\"]Hi blurdad, if your son's Mandarin conversation skills 'cannot make it', do you think HCI is a wise choice for him?

                        Hi jtoh

Good question. Attended HCI open house, quite impressive. My son quite \"OK\" with it.

Base on different choices available, not many to choose from. He wants to go to boy's school. So for IP/IB, the choices are RI, HCI and ACSI. His CA1+SA1 result not so good, below 80%, chances to get CO from RI is quite low. As for ACSI, not that easy also, ACSI only takes in 90 boys for DSA to their IB programme. Take into consideration that they have to give priority to ACS(P) and ACS(J) boys. The other choice that should not miss is HCI.

I remember last year that there was one parent feel regarded and had to say sorry to his/her DS for not applying HCI as DS could not get CO from RI. Most of his/her DS's classmate were awarded CO and he is one of the fews who did not get any. So quite a greate impact to him.

You might say that this would encourage DS to work harder for the PSLE and get good result to enter his dream school via S1 posting, I think my DS is not that type and do not wish my DS has to go through this. So should not miss any chance.

Yes, please encourage your DS to work hard to get >80% for CA1+SA1 for P6. Which is the most important requirement for DSA. To my understanding, the others awards, like UNSW, SMOPS, AMOPS, etc.. are just supporting factors. Unless DS has done something really special like climb the Mouth Everest or represented Singapore in Math or Science olympiad.

I have a friend, last year his DS scored 79.x% for his CA1+SA1 received WL for RI, while his DS classmate scored 80.1% received CO from RI. My friend's DS has several math awards in his portfolio which did not help much. He completed all the 60 questions in his RI GAT test and done \"OK\" for interview.

IMHO, for GEPers, P6 CA1+SA1 >80% is the key to RI for DSA. You might not agree with me.....
