DSA 2011

'regular feature' because the school admin said so, and they have a set procedures coordinating among the various schools on who should start the ball rolling with the appeal cases. The principal said they will act quickly on the appeal cases so that the students can have their earlier choices released to others who are appealing to get it there. It has to start trickling down from the top schools........Regular feature? :scratchhead: Now, now, I remember being :spank: for even suggesting that
Anyway, as I said before and will say again, as parents, we should support any changes that is purely for the good and benefit of the kid!
it is standard condition on the DSA exercise form that the choices are final, and yet the schools still want to entertain appeal cases - in order to attract those with higher scores - then who is to say no ? lo and behold, the schools are practicing it and anticipating it and facilitating it.......it is hard to refuse
since the principals are helping each other in the appeal cases, no one is deprived -
Taking tt 220 geppers went for interviews... Wonder how many geppers will get co from hci :scratchhead:
also wonder how many will eventually put HCI first choice, and how many will go else where ......
I think most of the interviews qns asked are not todifficult to answer and some r referring to what the kids have experience like oversea trip or leadship role and so forth.... So wonder will the interview really deter their selection or not ...
I believe that for some students, particularly the stronger ones (be they GEPpers or Sportspeople), the interview is just a formality. For the borderline ones, especially GEPpers who scored <80% and who had to take GAT, the interview is definitely more important.
A couple of years ago, my friend's dd went for her DSA interview with 2 others. All three were GEPpers but had to sit for GAT bec their results were <80%. During the interview, it was clear who performed better. And not surprisingly, only that girl of the 3 got a CO. -
sorry, what is co ?

confirmed offer for DSA. -
My DS is in group 1, he had 1-1 interview with a lady. He said there was a senior student there but the purpose was for the interviewee to ask him questions abt life in HCI. Question asked - why HCI? The other 2 questions were asked in response to what my DS said, so it's kind of impromptu.
As for response test, he had questions from the PIER too, n something abt being green.
Hope that helps those in DSA 2, but i'd advised against memorizing or over preparing as they will most likely change the question.
Hope that helps!
The 3 questions for GEP free response for HCI are:
1. How to make home and Singapore more green
2. Mindmap for Education
3. Response to PIER
I heard these from a GEP kid telling his parents next to me
3 questions in 30mins. I believe the \"Response to PIER\" is just a test of creativity.
oh I always thought free response test is writing an essay. So it's not. Basically is to get their views on the topic they ask. Thks for the info. -
Actually the free response writing is for GEP only. I believe DSA2 will be different as it is purely for academic mainstream. It was stated in HCI DSA info that the mainstream P6 will sit for: English, Chinese, Maths Tests + Interview.

Yes free response writing is only meant for geppers and all geppers applicants were tested and interview last sat. -

I agreed that for those students that <80%, the GAT and interview are important. However, as the above case, it would be also the girl who received CO, her SA1 scored higher then the other 2 girls.
As for my DS experience in HCI, his interview process took about 15-20 mins. 2 interviewers(teachers) to 1 student. Besides the 3 main questions asked, the interviewers ask quite a few questions base on the answers provided. For e.g. \"Why HCI?\" After my DS provided the answer, then the interviewer asked : \"Have you apply DSA to other school? like RI or ACSI\"? and so on...
As for one of my DS classmate, his result is quite good, scored 85% for SA1. His interview session was conducted by 4 interviewers to 1 students. 2 teachers, 1 sinors student and 1 ex-HCI student from the Hwa Chong Alumni. The whole interview process only took 5 mins. Only 2 simple questions were asked. The rest of the time was more of the interviewers telling him what HCI can offer him and how interesting to study in HCI...The teachers also explained to him that the sinors student and the ex-HCI student were in the room to answer any questions raised by the students or the students might want to find out more about student's experience of HCI.....
I guess this is the different between students with good result and students with average result...This is life manz!!! -

I think results at SA1 are important but for GEPpers whose results are <80%, results, GAT and interview will all play a part in getting that CO.
I know of a boy who didn't get COs from RI nor HCI and was quite upset about it because his results were a lot better than his classmate who scored lower than he did in his exams. -
Hi
Anyone who has attended the HCI selection test for SMOPS award winners and Sport domin can share their experience? How is the interview? I understand it was conducted in group, like 3 teachers to 3 students. How is the Math, Eng and Chinese test? Tough?
Thank you
