        Hi,

        Need advice please…

        With so many schools offering DSA these days, how do one assess which school(s) to try DSA for your child? Short of knowing the PSLE score, how do a parent assess where your own child stand among the whole cohort to set realistic goal/school?

          If non-GEP DSA, then your child should have some sort of national ranking/placings, or national awards, etc.

              if that is the result for a GEP student, high chance; and bear in mind RI also requires you to include P4, P5, and P6 SA1 results

                  you got to work extra hard to prove yourself at PSLE. get at least 260 and go via S1 posting

                        Back to the posting by the Pri 6 boy who want to get into RI, I think no matter what the chances that people might be talking now, having a clear goal is the first right step.

                        2. whether you want to get into RI or other schools, hardwork is the primary requirement. For DSA, schools will be looking at your results from Pri 4 (for some school), Pri 5 and also your Pri 6 SA1.

                        Putting these info into a portfolio will also be helpful. Thus thinking about your achievement to-dates, your strength, awards, put them all into a portfolio.

                        3. DSA is interesting and useful experience, wander you get into your dream school at the end of the day or not. Go for it. But remember, focus and do not go for so many that you get drained up. The need to make decision if more than 1 accepted you is a good problem in my opinion. After all, we are required to make all kinds of decisions each day. {But remember, any decision we make will have an impact in our latter days.}

                        4. Accepting an offer at DSA come with pros and cons. Good : You will secured a place before PSLE, thus as long as you do not blow things up big time during PSLE, you are assured of a place. BAD: You do not participate in S1 central posting. Thus if you come out with a better than expected result and your DSAed school is not your first choice, then appeal is the only option.

                        But whatever the case is, all the old advises that focus and do well for your PSLE is always good.

                        Good luck.
