My friend's son who didn't manage to get any DSA even under GEP went to NUSH eventually with PSLE score. ALso struggle wat.vanilla mum:
Actually if doesnt score well for PSLE and get in to a good school via DSA, it is also a suffer to the kids. This is what happen to my colleague's son. He was WL to NUSH and scored 232 for PSLE. He received CO when collecting his PSLE results and now he was at the borderline for most of the subject and worst was made to stay for extra lessons after school and on saturday.
Agree with you vanilla mum. Just told my colleague that if my DS did not get selected by NUSH & even if he's PSLE result qualify for NUSH, I might not want him to go there. This is because if NUSH think that he has the capability, they would have chosen him during DSA. With such an accelerated prog, it'll be tough for him to cope. -
Paddy Field:
Yes .. I received the CO from RI. Thank you jtoh n firefly.

Didn't say it doesn't happen elsewhere. Just saying what I know to be true of a specific school in response to parents' posting that if their kids were not successful via DSA they would reconsider sending their kids to NUSH, even if their PSLE grades allowed them to. However, given that NUSH is a specialized school with its accelerated Math and Science programme, it wouldn't surprise me that there are more students having a tough time in the later years compared to other top IP schools which are more broad-based in nature.jtoh:
My friend's dd failed to get into NUSH via DSA a few years ago. But she did well enough at PSLE to secure a place. She enjoyed her first two years at NUSH a lot, especially all the practical lessons in the laboratories. She is now in Year 4 and struggling. She is not the only one. And these include those who got into NUSH via DSA.
I believe these cases happen in all top IP school...NUSH is not alone lah
Having said that, there are a number of brilliant students in NUSH who thrive in the school's highly accelerated environment and continue to surpass their teachers' expectations. -
