Hi Lynn2010

I worked in one of the top lawfirm and u can actually tell if those young lawyers were from RGS bcos they basically do not hv good EQ (sorry RGS girls). They are simply too proud to talk to you. In fact I was discussing with my boss (a senior partner) and she also felt that NYGH girls are both good in study and better character, she also mentioned that NYGH has given an impression that it is a chinese sch, but that was in the past. she feels that NYGH is better as in educated in all rounded.

Any one here goes through interview in MGS?

Dear Vanilla mum,

      I really appreciate this info!!!

Just to share. My older girl reluctantly went into the SBC program in MGS. Throughout these 3 years, she has been given a lot of opportunities to shine and excel. In addition, from a quiet shy girl who has problem speaking in public, she is now in 2 CCAs, one of them is debate and being a lawyer is one of her career options.

We always hope to make the correct choice for our kids. To me, life is not all about getting As (though she did); character and attitude are important too. This determines if we made it or not in life later.

That said, i must say that RGS program suit some children too. During the opening, i saw many girls who are kind and helpful.

The only thing about MGS is they start their IP in 2013. I’m worried about my lazy bum (younger dd) <sigh>
My ds got waitlist as well.

Half of his class and the next class got CO from RI yesterday.

He is obviously upset and did't want to talk about it.

Cheer Up !! All is not lost ! WL is just as good. Put it as first choice, should be able to get it on posting date ...... I believe they do adjust the cut off point at S1 posting to take in the WL

You mean they took places meant for S1 posting by adjusting the cutoff point to accomodate the WL ?
Or could it be they never fill up the entire 225 DSA places with COs at first, leaving some on WL ?
both are possible, because for DSA, their target is not filling vacancies, the objective is to snatch whom they think will be their cream of the crop, and being independent school, they have 100% discretion on admission

most of the time the 225 are not fully issued

            Hi vanilla mum,

Just curious.....why do you have the impression that RGS girls are difficult to control? DD has a CO from RGS so would appreciate your input. Can PM me if you like  .....Tks.

Hi Tinkerbelle, no offense, was merely getting the feedbacks from colleagues whose DDs from RGS and NYGH, many complain that their DDs (from RGS) are very westernize and proud, not 乖。 where else those from NYGH are 听话bcos sch taught them to be 尊敬师长,孝顺父母。 NYGH also emphaise on chinese culture where RGS emphasize in academic.

            Hi vanilla mum,
No offence taken 😉 . Thanks so much for sharing your colleagues' views on difference between RGS and NYGH gals. Appreciate it greatly.
So I must tell DD to be humble & 乖 乖. Most importantly.....must 孝顺父母. 😂

All the best to your DD at NYGH. :celebrate:

Me 2, received the same email from NJC....

anyway, anyone here has any idea what is installed at the day activity? What do they look for? Anybody has any statistics on no. of students shortlisted for this activity n interview and how many will be accepted after this round? Trying to figure out % of getting CO....

The first email (send this morning) I received for Day Activity is correct; no mistake :
              --------
Congratulations for successfully clearing Phase 1 of the College's Direct School Admissions Exercise. You have been shortlisted to take part in Selection Phase 2 which consists of Day Activity and an interview.

There were about 700-705 participants in the HAST test (estimate from the registration numbers on the board). If you assume that they short-list half and they allocate 200 places for DSA, then there is a good probability for CO. Just my assumption and may not be correct.

Not aware of how NJC will conduct the day activity on 20th Aug but I can share with you what took place during the NUSH selection camp. Maybe can give you some idea ... (not saying it will be the same hor) :

From my DS, who did not give much detials - during NUSH selection camp, the students went thru 3 stations to do experiments related to physics, chemistry and biology in groups and give their opinions verbally and also on paper. The experiments not related to primary school science topics so no point to prepare. Also need to write an article related to something about able to go back in time.

Just tell yr DD to relax and enjoy herself. She has got this far, dun worry.

but lowering the cop also not so right lah ...but hope after some of the CO given up by some kids and replaced by the next WLs on line..they will still take in the balance of those on WLs... hopefully that is what in their plan..then parents and kids on WL need not have to worry so much liao... :xedfingers: 🙏
if any adjustment will be upward not lowering, in order to free up vacancies for the WL

Thanks for working that out, TREX8! It feels good to know that the disparity in GEPers & mainstreamers are not that great. 😄

                    TREX8:
Tea session on 5 Aug - attended by about 100 girls (majority GEP, counted only 2 from mainstream).

Tea session on 12 Aug - attended by 104 mainstreamers

Therefore, confirmed offer given to about 204 girls (maybe some absentees or decided not to turn up since already have COs from other schools).

My impression was that most of the girls for the first tea session also have CO from rgs. Assuming equal split between NYGH and RGS, then maybe about 50 girls on WL would get a CO from NYGH eventually.
                    cestmoi:
Hi Pinky88, at NYGH tea reception, Mdm Heng was saying that the sch received up to 1000 applications but only 210 places allocated to DSA. So again, she has urged the parents/dd to let her know early if they are not taking the offer so that the place can be given to WL.

😄 In addition to the above, I hv counted abt 104 mainstreamers today (seated in 26x4 rows) NY pri sch has the most nbr allocated with at least 10 students. The sec ones were v busy impressing on my DD abt sch ccas & curriculum. It's a knowledgable visit for her. :boogie:
