But why they can’t give the kids CO straight away instead of WL… So troublesome and keep the parents and kids on suspend …
Hi Vlim, a colleague’s wife is a teacher in RGS and is one of the DSA selection panels, he said each sch has it’s own procedure but kids were selected based on:
1. 80% and above of the pri sch results
2. top 20% of the GAT
3. others
if a child score very well in pri sch but didn’t make it to be top 20% of the GAT, will not be selected for interview/second test. If a child has made it to the above 2 points, he/she must also done well for the subject that he/she applied for. COs given based on the above plus leadership quality, if one has the above but the GAT was between 75-79% will be given WL. -

either way...independent school has full discretion ...if not mistaken, 2011 Sec 1 in RI has 452 studentsverykiasu2010:

The school will not \"know\" the exact COP till after the PSLE intake allocation by MOE. I supposed you mean the school can reduce the PSLE in-take and in this manner, the COP will be higher due to a smaller intake?
Remember they told everyone that during the interview ? -

Hi Tinkerbelle, no offense, was merely getting the feedbacks from colleagues whose DDs from RGS and NYGH, many complain that their DDs (from RGS) are very westernize and proud, not 乖。 where else those from NYGH are 听话bcos sch taught them to be 尊敬师长,孝顺父母。 NYGH also emphaise on chinese culture where RGS emphasize in academic.vanilla mum:
Hi vanilla mum,
Just curious.....why do you have the impression that RGS girls are difficult to control? DD has a CO from RGS so would appreciate your input. Can PM me if you like  .....Tks.
When my dd insisted to go RGS 2 years ago, I was also very worried that she will become very westernise. But now she is still the same dd I have 2 years ago, but more mature and more out-spoken. But never talk back or cannot be control.
However, some (not many) of her classmates are quite westernise but those are already like that before joining RGS. So I do not think is the school that caused the girls to be not乖 or very westernise.
Hi sunflowermom,
Thanks for sharing your experience. It's reasurring to hear your DD hasn't changed much after 2 years in RGS. Similarly, I have concerns about DD being too westernise and too outspoken but RGS is DD's dream sch.
When I accompanied DD to RGS for her interview, I was most impressed with how helpful & polite the gals were. DD and I were lost and some gals came up to offer assistance. While waiting for DD, I was walking around and the students who walked past me greeted me...(and no, I don't look like a teacher...haha). At the end of the day, I guess it all boils down to the child's character.

It's too easy to over-generalize students in a school as being a certain way. Personally, if I want my dd to grow up to be filial, humble, ladylike etc, I would imbue in her these values myself. Home and family are still the most important building blocks for a child and teenager's values and moral standards. If I instill these values in her well, and continually encourage these behaviors, I have no fear of her being influenced too much by her peers because her foundation is strong. Similarly, I do not expect the school to be the one teaching her these values.
RGS and NYGH are both very good schools. I would choose a school based on what it is able to offer my dd in terms of academic curriculum, how comfortable my dd would feel in the environment, and the opportunities that would come with being from RI(JC) and HCI(JC). -

Is the above the scenario for RGS? There's no WL for RGS..

Hi Pinky88, at NYGH tea reception, Mdm Heng was saying that the sch received up to 1000 applications but only 210 places allocated to DSA. So again, she has urged the parents/dd to let her know early if they are not taking the offer so that the place can be given to WL.
wah - 200+ for dsa is a lot! -

This must be some powerful tuition class! Mine only has \"did not apply\" and \"no letter yet\". :scared:DS came back from tuition with following stats :
Class of 12, 4COs, 5WLs, 1 rejected, 1 did not apply, 1 no letter yet -

Learning Lab? Sounds like a tuition class comprising of GEPpers.

If you assume that they short-list half and they allocate 200 places for DSA, then there is a good probability for CO. Just my assumption and may not be correct.
They take in around 200 each year thru DSA & S1. So DSA offers cannot be 200 lah. Maybe 100 or so only. -

They will not fill up all 50% during this stage. Not forgetting RI will set aside some places for appeal cases....those rejected by RI in DSA stage but perform way above their COP during PSLE.
