:congrats: to your niece. She'll love RGS.
Yes she did and got COs from RGS and NYGH, a very focused and determined girl who has decided upfront that it will be RGS and nothing else.jtoh:
Flower amongst the thorns. Did your niece apply for any DSAs?

Mdm Heng was VP in NYPS, then became principal of NYPS for a number of years before being promoted to head NYGH, so she has been in the NY family of schools for many years...and has seen many batches of NYPS kids pass under her watch.
I haven't heard of Mdm Heng before this and now that we have met her , I find her a truly outstanding and charismatic principal. I have also met the RGS principal during the Open House talk. She is, no doubt, also very capable but strikes me as a very business like lady with none of Mdm Heng's warmth and personality. I just feel more comfortable leaving my DD in Mdm Heng's hands.verykiasu2010:
that is why outside talk is that Mdm Heng has a lot of pulling power .... so will continue to see high cut off point for NYGH in the coming years
she is really very capable and a well liked principal
Now that she is heading NYGH, many of the existing NYPS kids still remember her and of course want to go where she is ....... almost all the girls from my DS class last year went to NYGH except 1 girl in RGS -

Hi, pinky88, :congrats:
This is good news indeed.
Looks like you don't have to cheong so much for the NJC one. -
Attended a talk by MOE about DSA. For example, if you get WL from RI and CO from HCI, you first choice is RI, you should put RI. This will not compromise your CO from HCI. So if you dont get into RI (bcos WL), HCI will still give you a spot as you have CO from them. This is what the MOE lady said.
Does any one know if HMT is compulsory in NYGH? Can DD do normal MT? If not, what if she doesnt do well in HMT? MT thing is really not her cup of tea -
Lynn2010:
HMT is compulsory in NYGH. Based on my friend's experience, her dd had to re-take her end of year HMT exam because she scored the equivalent of a B in it. :yikes: We thought a B was pretty decent, but apparently it wasn't good enough.Attended a talk by MOE about DSA. HMT is a core subject so the marks will go into the calculation of the MSG. -

What is MSG???

Hi parents,
Just getting your opinions - IF you DD/DS tried DSA for School A (1st choice) and School B (Backup choice). Then got CO from School B, but reject by School A. What will you do?
Would you take CO from Sch B first and do the despicable thing? That is after PSLE see how the result then appeal
OR - resigned to fate regardless of PSLE result
From experience, many students were transferring from one sch to another during the first 2 weeks of Sec 1 -

What is MSG???[/quote]I think MSG is the grading system used by some schools (Mean Score Grading or something like that?). There is a minimum score you need to achieve for year 1, 2, 3.....in order to be \"promoted\" to the next year.
