You are right. But ACSI also offers switch from O level to IP at the end of Sec 2 for top performers. So in the end there is a balance.
Yes, but the school deprived another student of a place in the IP programme. That's why the parents in that boy's sport weren't happy.Funx3:
Maybe the Sch Knows it has a Back-up of O Level Class, that's Why giving the boy a Chance to Try for IP.
But for those Sch that has IP Prog only, Maybe they Have to Exercise more Stringent Criteria on the academic capability, else the kids may suffer later on if they have to Switch out from the Sch in the event that they cannot Cope .... -

Just to explain why I said it deprived other boys of a place in IP: That year, a couple of the boys in that sport CCA were offered the O level route instead IP, despite having a better academic track record than the one who was given the IP track. In the end, these boys chose to go to a rival school. That's why I said it was depriving other boys of a chance in the IP track. I suppose the school felt the first boy could bring more glory to the school.

looks like the NJC people really had a totally different mentality, different approach and objective in their interview, based on anecdote sharings above

I counted they need to involve at least around 40 teaches with a panel of 3 teachers in a room to accommodate 208 candidates in 15 interview each.
My DD waited for 20 mins, scheduled at 230pm n went in at 250pm...not too bad...the interview took abt 15 mins. The panel consists of 3 interviewers whom she said were v friendly. The same teachers who access them during the day activity. Her classmate had a panel of 5 interviewers n one of them is the discipline master. I wonder if this grp is a better grp :?
If some rooms have 5, even more teachers are involved.
How accurate can the interview process be since there are so many different interviewers ?
More like an element of chance involved. -

Difference between civil service and private sector ?
Btw was the P and VPs involved in the interview yesterday ? -

Do you think their approach is different this year than in the past? -
For NJC what is the main criteria of selection ?
How important is the interview and day activity yesterday ?
Was it just to eliminate unsuitable candidates ie selection based mainly on HAST score but they need to eliminate people who are antisocial or who speaks really badly.
Or they award points for performance during the activities and interview, add up with the HAST score, take a look at the school performance and then decide. -

I have no idea. as i said above, based on anecdote sharings by some parents yesterday / today....they are different from what other parents shared about other schools' interview approach - to put the students at easeverykiasu2010:

I don't know if different this year. The year before last , my boy was only asked to talk about himself, his hobbies, leisure activities, strenghths n weakneses, how he deals with failures. He elaborated using examples from experiences he had gone through from taking exams to how he manages glitches in his hobby projects (animation). They also asked him about music learning and he talked about one of his favorite composers and why he enjoyed trying to portry his music. They did ask about his other DSA. He chose not to tell that he'd applied to RI. He did say he had an offer from another school. The experience was quite positive. In fact before he went in, we met some of the interviewers at the office and one of them told my boy not to be nervous, that they were only going to chat to find out more about him. I don't think he got that team of interviewers though.verykiasu2010:
