looks like the NJC people really had a totally different mentality, different approach and objective in their interview, based on anecdote sharings above

Do you think their approach is different this year than in the past?

I don't know if different this year. The year before last , my boy was only asked to talk about himself, his hobbies, leisure activities, strenghths n weakneses, how he deals with failures. He elaborated using examples from experiences he had gone through from taking exams to how he manages glitches in his hobby projects (animation). They also asked him about music learning and he talked about one of his favorite composers and why he enjoyed trying to portry his music. They did ask about his other DSA. He chose not to tell that he'd applied to RI. He did say he had an offer from another school. The experience was quite positive. In fact before he went in, we met some of the interviewers at the office and one of them told my boy not to be nervous, that they were only going to chat to find out more about him. I don't think he got that team of interviewers though.
Anyone knows when we will know the outcome of the NJC DSA?

Will be sent by snail mail and they say early Sept.
But MOE regulation requires all results to be known by 2 Sept.

Wish they could send out emails first, and then confirm with snail mail.
Considering 29 Aug (Mon) is non school day in lieu of Presidential Election and PH on 30 Aug (Tues) ......perhaps news may be out end of next week ....as administration staff would want to enjoy their rest days too..just my hunch

I thot I'd posted something similar before, either on this thread or the nJC thread, or the psle thread - I forget. But I don't remember too, also bc it was back in 2009.

Thought it was quite standard to ask such questions? Similar to job interview. I did prepare many questions for him to think through- good reflection for him too, and then he came out of the interview and said \"MOMMY!!!! They didn't ask any of those questions you asked me to think through. All they asked was for me to talk about myself and my hobbies!\". Okiee..... got slammed there. ;(

DS's experience in NJC yesterday :

              1) The day activity comprised of 2 games which were pretty challenging and fun too. He came out pretty happy πŸ™‚

              2) Interview scheduled at 130pm but he waited for 50 mins before called in to the panel of 3 interviewers. First remark by one of the interviewer : you looked cheerful and not at all nervous. This sounded good and put DS at ease though I personally think he really was just being himself and not at all nervous at all.
Questions started such as what was his favourite subject, what books he liked to read (DS concluded this question was a result of his personal statement in the very first stage of DSA application so it depends on what you have written about yourself) and why does he think he should be given a place ?
The process lasted for 20mins with the senior escorting him out of the room all the way to the lobby.

Oh most importantly, DS felt okie after the whole process which I thought and hope it all turns out well too.

Good luck for all who is waiting for the answer from NJC ! πŸ™‚

Mine exclaimed the same remarks yesterday too ! One other question was about his wallet (DS thought this was something similar to the pen/pencil question) which we did some talk-through and discussed about. So he was pleased similar nature question came out. Agree to do some simple brainstorming Q&A before going in to the interview room. Still it's a relief the process is over.

One question : does anyone know whether NJC besides issuing CO or rejections, do they issue WL like some schools ?

And if they have WL, do they also welcome these students as long as the first choice is indicated the same when S1 posting exercise starts ?

Yes, they issue WLs. High chance of getting place if you put as 1st choice in your preference.
