DSA 2011

PiggyLalala:
GEP always gets discounted entry criteria.
yes, do consider DHS for DSA. It is a good school and the DSA process is not complicated for GEP students. Just fill in the DSA form. No interview for my son last year. You can visit the school open house next year and get the DSA form. If I did not remember wrongly, I think the requirement for GEP overall is like 75%. -
Blur Dad:
85%!!vlim:
Maybe to add on >80% also not 100% guarantee a CO.
Yes, maybe the bar will be raised next year. In order to be awarded a CO from RI or HCI, at least 85%.
I remember in 2009, when my DS was in P4, his senior in P6, scored 78% and awarded CO from RI.
My ds (P5) scored about 78% for the last CT. P6 CT will be more difficult, right??

Firefly38 quick take cover!!! Stones coming ...!

:rotflmao:
actually i have nothing against NJC (my DS never apply for NJC DSA anyway) but i feel that their DSA process seems a little complicated & disorganised, from what i have heard from parents in this forum, as well as from friends whose children have applied for NJC DSA. and now they make parents wait for the DSA results, past MOE deadline (2 sep)!!! :frustrated:
anyway, i just wanna wish ngbrdad (& DS) every success in DSA as well as PSLE, as he (ngbrdad) may be my ε¦ιΏ or ε¦εΌ in HCI! :salute: -

:thankyou: Piglalala for sharing :grphug:
Just to add on.
The computation of the average is based on normal chinese and not higher chinese. So make sure your child do well in the normal chinese in P6.
I think for most GEP students, they are able to achieve > 80% in Maths and science. As to whether their overall >80% would then depend very strongly on their CHinese and English. GEP english is quite tough and not many can scored >80%. Hence my advice is to aim for 90% for maths; 85% for science. English around 75 and not too low for chinese too. If you score below 70% for chinese, it is very difficult to pull the overall up to 80%.
Same for PSLE, if you are aiming above 260, then your chinese cannot be too poor, must at least a high A.
In short, I think chinese plays an important part in determine their overall as the mark difference for the other 3 subjects are usually not that great.
JMHO.

What you said is quite true for my ds. He has no problem for Science and Maths but for English and Chinse... -

1. Modular system, with some accelerated modules as well.
2. Less taxing CCA programme.
3. Small cohort with small class size.
4. Cheap fees.
5. Boarding programme.
although the admin side probably can be improved. Just typical civil service pattern.
Btw remember HCJC students used to laugh at their NJC peers for having their prom night in the school hall ? -

Students normally do better in the oral, listening comprehension and the yu wen yin yong and hence pull up the overall chinese grade.
all the best next year.

ngbrdad:
Didn't find anything messy about the NJC DSA process. All clearly written out on their website. Except I think this time that they tried to use Email - all the errors came out. *oops*. hAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Last time when everything was via formal letter snail mail to individual students' addresses, no mistakes - maybe bc Principal have to proof-read and sign (or rather her secretary. Secretaries usually quite sharp-eyed).

Oh, and too many long-necks here.
I do wonder why some receive letters and some don't though. haha! Last time all receive, wat. LOL. -

It's not discounted. The GEP exams are centralized and generally tougher to score than a mainstream school's paper.
