DSA 2011

Several parents have called NJC and they were told that rejection letters would only be sent out this week, so can't blame the postal service if the letters are posted out after 2 Sep deadline.
of course they have very honestly said those letters will be sent this week, so cannot blame Singpost or courier services company
perhaps their (NJC) understanding of the MOE \"rules\" on DSA i.e. para 17 and 18 of the FAQ, is that those are guidelines, not do-or-die regulations, hence so long as they have finally completed the process, that's it, plus minus a couple of days......(\"so what?!\", imagine they say this to themselves!! :rotflmao: )
sorry to the parents who just have to bear with them on this -
if NJC is a government school, how much is the school fees now, compared to IP schools like RGS costing around $200 - $300 ?

Just adding my 2 cents worth. I think all parents should just calm down. On the MOE website, it says you SHOULD receive by 2 Sep not you WILL receive by 2 Sep. Let's not get too worked up over this. If you have not receive any notification from NJC by now, the outcome is clear. So we should just encourage our sons and daughters to continue working hard towards doing well for PSLE, instead of working ourselves into a tizzy over what should or should not have been.
This is taken from the MOE website (FAQs for DSA Sec)
17. When will I know the outcome of my application to each school?
You should receive a note from the school informing you of the outcome of your application during the Selection Stage by 2 September 2011. The letter will clearly state if you have been given a Confirmed Offer, or been put on the Waiting List, or that you are unsuccessful. If you have been placed on the Waiting List or given a Confirmed Offer in at least one school, you will receive a School Preference Form on 24 October 2011 after your PSLE examinations. You will have to make your preferences (maximum of 3 preferences) from 24 to 28 October 2011.
Agree fully that they have flouted the MOE regulation since the rejection letters were not even sent out yet by yesterday 5/9/11/.

My son has received a CO from NJC last Fri. The wait was definitely agonizing. The letter says that they have adopted a very stringent selection criteria. I understand from the school that all successful candidates would have received the COs by last Sat. ]Apparrently the delay for releasing the results was due to the fact that all the papers were sent to Australia for marking. Agree that they should have sent out all sucessful and rejection letters at the same time.
That was only for the HAST test, not for the final outcome!
The second round daycamp and interview were conducted on 20 aug after receiving the result from Australia (or Mars  )
Then they had time from 21 aug to 2 Sep to consolidate all the data(marks of HAST, daycamp, interview, others) and inform the candidates of the final outcome of the DSA

Fees and Financial Matters
1. What is the fee structure like for the Integrated Boarding Programme?
Junior High students pay the same fees as students in government secondary schools.
2. Do students have to pay for additional enrichment programmes that are organised for them?
As the school fees do not cover the cost of additional enrichment programmes, students will have to pay for these programmes on their own. Singaporean students may withdraw funds from their Edusave accounts for this purpose.
3. How much is the fee for boarding?
Note that NJC’s Integrated Boarding Curriculum is integrated to leverage on Boarding, as such, additional programmes and resources are offered when students are in residence. For students on the enhanced boarding programme, the fee is about $67 per month for Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents.
Students only pay the boarding fees during the period when they are in residence.
4. Are there financial assistance for needy students for boarding?
The College believes in equal opportunity for all. Genuine needy cases will be able to apply for financial assistance. Details are being worked out at the moment.
5. What would be the school fees for international students?
The school fees for Junior High are S$211 per month for ASEAN students and S$226 per month for non-ASEAN students.

Yes I really will like to know whether is it \"legal\" for them to do away with WL? Plain inefficiency. Does that mean we have to call MOE?
I was joking with a parent that when the kids go to NJC and are not able to meet their deadlines. They can always say it's okay - neither did NJC! LOL!
Haha... Good one

I totally agree. We really have a lot of nitpicking now due to frustration, relax and concentrate on PSLE.
no point fighting over timing differences
if a CO is received,be thankful, if a rejection, does not matter if it is received one week later or one day later
perhaps those independent IP schools have more resources to deploy in managing the DSA processes while NJC being a government school, as mentioned by some parents, very 'civil service' minded.
If get CO on 7 Sept, all will be forgiven, I think  . It's not like a few days gonna make a difference. If rejection letter, no diff also. Better for DSA schools to say, all rejected unless CO received. :siam:
I think phankao ever said, the school fees is about $23, whereas RI/RGS is $300 => more resources to deploy with bigger budget, kekeke.
Complain to MOE not going to increase one's chances, just play to their terms and move on, imho.verykiasu2010:
I think NJC does not consider themselves 2nd class, vk2010, it is the children's parents who view them as a class below the top IP schools. NJC is just being pragmatic, and would welcome all those dark horses, instead of all the ang pais. :evil:some parents have noticed that NJC's test and interview is the last among all IP schools - to the extent that most other IP schools had already released their DSA results - success or otherwise --- in order to filter out those who are not genuine NJC applicants.......if such is the thinking, then it is a subtle unspoken confirmation of a 'second-class' mentality thinking that NJC is only a second choice / no-choice's choice ......
I hope NJC does not think this way
As I said, I was quite impressed with their S1 students last year during Open House, but my DS just dont want to go there as he would have been the only one from his friends.
BTW, I am sure all the letters will be dated 2nd Sept, LOL. last year letter also same.
