Actually, most schools do set aside a quota for the different domains - GEP, Academic, Sports, Aesthetics etc. If you speak to the Sports teachers, they'll tell you exactly how many places are available for that year's Sports intake, and how many spots are alloted to which sport. Many IP schools (those with SBGE usually) also have a quota for GEP students and a separate quota for academic domain.

had it checked it out for DHS.......fr horse's mouth.....

      NO QUOTA for GEP pupils,
vacancies which are not filled by GEP pupils will be spooled to the mainstream pupils who applied for DSA.
      jtoh:
And they don't necessarily fill up all the spots. If the students don't meet the mark, they aren't accepted. So GEP and mainstreamers don't exactly compete against each other in these schools. The mainstreamers compete against other mainstreamers in the academic domain.
so YES, GEP and mainstreamers do compete with one another (under academics domain)
as the total vacancies avail for DSA is kept at 50%

the above is reference to my previous posting (below)

      That’s where \"the problem\" lies, DHS u heard that ..... 😉

Most Gep pupils would apply for DSA to DHS, (some even apply to all IP schs, real KS)
even w/o the intention of taking up the offer,
as it’s such a hassle free,
exempted fr GAT and no interviews required, so why not ??
their applications take up the slots of the DSA vacancies,
depriving other applicants who are really keen in their applications.

That's why I wrote \"most schools\" set aside a quota. Obviously DHS doesn't fall into that category. Happily or unhappily for some people.

            Hi Augmum
            1. GEP kids & parents are no different from other kids and parents represented here in Kiasuparents.
            2. They all place a lot of importance on education and the school they go to to give themselves the best possible opportunity to develop to the best they can be.
            3. Getting a DSA CO/WL is not a guaranteed thing for a GEP kid. 10-20% of all GEP kids do not get any CO/WL at all.
            4. Put yrself in the shoes of a GEP kid/parent & wld u apply for RI/HCI only(for boys) & RGS/NYGH only (for girls)? Or wld u also apply for a good school like DHS as well on top of those above ?
            - If you say u wld apply for RI/HCI or RGS/NYGH only, I wld salute you for your bravery
            - & if you say if u were a GEP kid/parent, you wld also apply for DHS on top of RI/HCI or RGS/NYGH I wld also salute you, for your honesty.

Wow…..no wonder I read fr 1 posting stating that this thread is dominated by Gep parents…..so defensive….. 😉 😂

Well….. i merely feedback what i had juz gathered regarding the “no quota” thingy .
which may be useful info for parents who had gotten DHS WL….

i had said before, To each his own……

            i don’t need any1 to salute me…..
We had No die-hard schools prior to PSLE,
unlike some parents who die die also must get their kids in..….
when we were given the choices for S1 posting, i did not make RGS or NYGH as 1 st choice,
so is this called bravery ?? …. NO……is abt personal preference after weighing pros and cons.

            My point is …..
One can’t deny that if the DSA selection criteria is made more tedious, (juz liek other IP schs)
it would deter those non-geniune applicants fr taking up the slots.....No ??

[quote=\"rylee\"]Right. Actually, what VS did was pretty good. Log into the system yourself to check the results. After that VS staff will call to inform you if u are successful. Just in case u didn't have time to log in. CO will issue to those successful applicants later.

Hi. I am new here. How do you log into VS's system to check. Can't seem to find it on their school webpage. Thanks.

Hi Mvm, u can log in vs website to check result using the below link.

probably MOE should limit the number of school the kids can dsa (2 at least 😉 ), then it will help to solve the problem as at the parents will seriously choose the schools that most suit or most desire by their kids..

                  jtoh:
It's true there are some kiasu GEP students who apply to several schools without the intention of taking up the offer. And when DHS makes it so easy for them, why not? The problem is DHS is happy to welcome them. Maybe if DHS made it harder for the students there would be more vacancies available for the mainstreamers. But wait a second,
doesn't DHS set a limit on the number of GEP offers they make
                  ?

Three of my dd's classmates, the ones who are very very good, applied to only RGS because that was the only school they wanted to go to.

for the purpose of getting a CO prior to sitting for the PSLE, application for the DSA school should only be confined to those schools that the kids have genuine intention of getting in but just in case PSLE score not good enough eventually.

If the kid is confident to get in the school (non-dream school, but still good school) via the PSLE t-score, no need to sweat via DSA -- hence this is nothing being brave by not applying. If the kid want to be sure to get in his / her dream school, then DSA is an additional chance and not to leave it to the 4 days in October.
                        absolutely agree....vks2010....and that's my point...... :hi5:
we had perhaps a self-confessed parent who posted the following in DHS thread.
                        nymom:
That is because for GEP apply to DHS, firstly, it do not need to go for interview and gat test secondly,it's free of charge.
So lots of the Gep kids treat it as backup.
But eventualy, only a small amount less than 5% will go there.
