Actually I have this idea  - does the school need to have just one open house day whereby they put up all the \"ra-ra\" to showcase their academic, CCAs, marketing talk, etc?? :scratchhead: Can it not be a case of an open house week, with assigned students and teachers to bring parents and kids around to see the actual school day, and displays of CCAs, small group (more personal) talks, etc?? Wouldn't that be a more realistic view of secondary school life??

Yeah Realistic from Our Point ....
But Logistic Nite-Mare for the Sch ....

Now they Do it in 1 Day, Some more on Sat (Non-Sch Day) ....
If 1 Wk, .... :faint: :faint:
(Speaking on Behalf of Sch)

The logistics come in becos of all the \"ra-ra\" they have to put up - set up booths / events to showcase CCAs, and the number of students involved due to large crowd. If spread over a week, divide out the students into different groups to cater for each day, no need to set-up booths for CCAs showcase, but rather put up display....may be lesser work and we need not be subjected to so many \"marketing messages\".
The impact will be lost if you were to do a week of smaller talks/displays/tours only vs an Open House of full performances by the choir, dance, gym, cheers, full CCA booths with trials at some Sports, like Shooting as some parents pointed out.

In my dd's time, I attend several Open Houses and the one I went to with the week-long tour didn't impress me at all. In fact I wrote it off my book immediately.

Also logistically, many of the girls are busy preparing for overseas competitions and trips in June so time-wise it would be a nightmare juggling prep for major overseas competitions and Open House week.

maybe Open house one week too long, draggy, and not enough resources. Impact gets diluted!

one day definitely too short, too rush with so many other good schools yet to visitโ€ฆ perhaps 2 days better, over weekend both Saturday and Sunday. Those students who are on duty on Sunday, come Monday can take a rest /school leave.

if spread out over 2 days, better! if visit school A today, tomorrow still got chance to visit school B.

Hi

All of u r so happy to visit HCI and RI. My neighbourโ€™s son got plantimum in SMOPS. However, he is studying in neighbourhood pri sch and his mother doesnโ€™t know English. His sch never arrange secondary sch tour for them. End up he may just go to neighbourhood secondary sch. My ddโ€™s results just normal, not very good leh even she studys in very popular pri sch. End up they may meet in a normal secondary sch. Actually, they are very different. The boy works very hard but without good envirnoment; my girl has very gd sch, but lazy. Now, just see if the boy can go in HCI as he got the plantimum in SMOPS. I feel ๅพˆๆ— ่€!

Primary schs don't arrange secondary sch tour for students. But sec sch will go to pri sch to promote their sch. During the day of release of psle results, sec sch students even went to dd's pri sch to distribute brochures. They only distribute brochures, never talk to the students since most of them are too nervous waiting for the results.
For your neighbour's son, if he does well, he can still apply for top schs, it doesn't matter if his mom can't speak English.

Yes, Quite a Number of Sch have Come to my Gal's Sch to give talk to them as guests for Talks on How and What to do for DSA, Pre-and Post PSLE Results.

And ALL the Kids will Receive a Thick Booklet on ALL Sec Sch Available to Apply to Later On .... With the Past Year Cut Off Points as Reference ....

And ALL (except those who exercised Confirmed DSA Choice) Can Put their 6 Choices of Sch in the Sec Sch Posting Exercise after the PSLE Results.
As Long as the Child's COP is equal to or above the Chosen Sch, they will get their choice of sch.
So Don't think your neighbour's boy will be left out, as long as he got Good Results in PSLE.
:celebrate: :celebrate:

Yes. Primary schools don't arrange tours for students to secondary schools. Although some will arrange for secondary schools to give talks to their P6 students. It's not too late for your neighbour's son to apply for DSA. In any case, if he does well at PSLE he can go any school he chooses.

Open Houses are a full school event, meaning everyone is involved. Holding it over two days means everyone will be involved over two days. So next time if your children are in Sec 1, 2, 3 and 4 and have to report to school on Saturday and Sunday for Open House for 4 years, don't complain hor?

I think for now the best solution for parents is to start visiting Open Houses from P5 so you get to visit more schools.
