ya, maybe strparent meant \"haolian\" but typed wrongly as \"haotai\".. but \"haotai\" definitely does not mean \"haolian\" as, once in a while, i still hear older folks use this term to reprimand people for doing stupid & silly things.. and yes, vlim, it is indeed a very OLD word used only by very OLD people! strparent???
My hubby said \"haotai\" = \"haolian\".firefly38:
strparent, what is \"haotai\" uh? does not sound like a very nice word to describe the GEPpers leh..
:siam:
-
firefly38:
I interprete the same meaning as you, ie stupid.. I thought this word will only apply me..... from my mum.....verykiasu2010:
check with hokkien dictionary ?
\"hao tai\" does sound like a hokkien word which my grandfather used to scold me & my siblings when we were small, for being.. well.. stupid (not that we were, but in his eyes lah!).
why does strparent call the GEPpers \"stupid\"? thot this should be the last word one would use to describe the GEPpers?! :scratchhead:
-
phankao:
but 赛马 IS a classical piece..
That's abit too cutesy for DSA audition, right?Otah:
:offtopic: Look at this link and enjoy ...

Did your ds secure his dsa using this song ?
He did a classical piece. I have a feeling that they placed great consideration on the portfolio, not just the audition.
not that i like the way it's played. a bit too showy for me.
ps. can ask how do students submit a portfolio for music? you mean like exam results & competition achievements, etc? thanks ~
:hi5: confirmed \"haotai\" = \"stupid\"...
and to quote strparent... \"And as we all know, most GEPpers a bit 'haotai', will mostly choose RI or HCI ( RGS or NYGH ) over NJC most of time\"...
so a GEPper (or any other kid) who chooses to study at RI or HCI (RGS or NYGH) instead of NJC is considered 'stupid'? OMG!!! :faint: -

haha me too long time never heard this word! sure brings back some childhood memories ~verykiasu2010:
I remember hearing words like peng tang - 饭桶 , suku.
My impression of hao tai is more like silly, a fool. Don't recall it as being stupid. Maybe different usage? -

So I always tell him to use silly instead if he really need to say \"stupid\". So does \"silly\" = \"stupid\"??? Maybe a nicer way to describe \"stupid\"??? oopppsss... :offtopic: -
chill … I don’t think Strparent meant it in a negative sense. His/her ds was from GEP too and in RI now (if I did not misread his posts). Can’t be that he is belittling his son, right?
