If he and you both think he might be able to get into RI based on his PSLE results he would probably be able to get into VS based on his PSLE results even if he doesn't make it to RI. Given that schools *may* be clamping down on DSA transfer cases this year, which means you won't be able to get a transfer to RI if you were to accept the VS CO, you might want to give the VS CO a miss and go for RI during the S1 Centralised Posting.Simply Kiasu:
Hi All,
My DS got a DSA CO from VS and I am wondering if he should take up the offer. He wants to go to RI and thinks he will do well enough on get in based on results. I am, however, not very confident
and think he may miss by a few points from RI's COP. Appreciate any advise I can get on what I should do. Thanks! -

I can imagine your dilemma :nailbite: You have to discuss with your son carefully and it has to be a decision (to S1 or not to S1) which he is comfortable as he's the one studying in the school for next 6 years. And only you know how accurate your son's feel of PSLE is based on his past assessment of school exams. If his gut feel is wrong then :slapshead: :spank: haha just joking.Hi All,

Some general comments. For S1 posting, he is competing with a pool of P6s who have no DSA or didn't accept any DSA. All the boys who accept DSA COs are not allowed in this S1 pool, translated to most GEPpers and many top boys are out. On the other hand, if go by appeal, assuming RI doesn't clamp down the exercise, your boy is competing with a very tight competitive pool for a much smaller number of vacancies. One not small group is the rest of the GEPper boys who didn't get RI CO but accepted COs from HCI, ACSI, NUSH etc and also want to transfer over to RI. Somehow I think GEP boys may have priority in RI appeal exercise. I am assuming your boy is not GEP. I can imagine a long list of appeal cases and if they rank the boys by results and if he just touches RI eventual S1 COP, it's a risk. Last year's successful appeal boys have to score a few points above eventual S1 COP.
Wishing you and your DS good luck in eventual decision and hope he gets into his dream school! :rahrah: -
Hi,
I know some of your DD and DS is in GEP. Can I know when will the school stop their common test in P6 as eventually all the kids will take the same paper in their PSLE? I also understand some of the GEPpers are taking HCL without going thru the CL paper in P5, hence if they are taking the normal CL paper in P6, will it be set by the GEP branch too (assuming they are still taking their common test)? -

VS is also a good school.Since you have a CO and like RI , then put RI as first choice, VS as second choice. -

Do you mean the P6 GEP SA1? It is usually in mid May, though the EL and CL oral exams are earlier. For this SA1 in May and the CA in Mar, all GEP students take the same papers including HCL and CL so they SA1 scores can be compared across all 9 centres. I was told the GEP papers are set by different GEP schools not by GEB.Hi,

The p6 geppers last gep exam will be in may, before mid year holiday. Thereafter, they can concentrate on their psle revision. They will also have to take the same preliminary exams as the mainstreamers. For geppers, they have to take SS preliminary exam, unlike mainstreamers who don't have to. And it is an important exam for geppers, as passing this Ss prelim is one of the criteria of their gep status promotion to secondary school level.Hi,

I was told that each GEP school ( or some of them) contribute some questions to the entire paper. So effectively, the GEP papers are set by most or all of the GEP schools for the GEP students, not the GEB.

oic...I thought you mean different gep centers have different set of common tests
...
well that is very possible..I think these gep teachers often have to meet together for discussion or meetings. If I am not wrong, some subject papers such as SS, they will mark it at the GE branch so that they can consult the ge officer if any uncertainty of the answer given by the students arise..

Ya, the GEP HODs and Subject Heads meet regularly.
I think after each GEP Common Test and SA, the subject teachers will meet to standardize their marking scheme and to test mark some of the qns or papers. Then they go back and mark individually.
