Number of places for independent schools to offer under DSA is entirely up to their own discretion. But for non-independent schools, they can only offer up to 10% of their intake under DSA, I think. I know eg. CHS, it's only around 30 places every year.

So far, I've observed that it's easier to DSA under sports for Top schools. But also must have national ranking.

RI under music would be under MEP. Child will have to have some awards at National or international competitions or would barely stand any chance at RI MEP DSA.

CHS takes in quite a large number under sports, so if your child is good in sports, that's a fairly good route. Haven't heard of DSA under \"music\" for CHS. They don't list that as an available DSA route. For this year and last, they did have DSA under Chinese Orchestra CCA though. They only took in 3 this year under chinese orchestra.

That is the \"minimum\" requirement RI states. But if that's all the child has, they can still go for audition. In fact, if don't have minimum requirement, they might still invite for audition. HOWEVER, do note that all the students who've been offered DSA under MEP over the years, have some prizes or awards from competitions. So if child doesn't have, then like wasting time. Even NAFA students with 2 diplomas don't get RI offer, but students not from NAFA but with international and local competition awards get DSA offer from RI. Every year, less than a handful - like 1 or 2 or at most 3 get RI MEP DSA.

I suppose as parents, we can only guide, and frankly, we also do not have a crystal ball to foretell which is the best option for our kids. The rest is up to the kids.


The reassuring thing would be that within the IP schools, the quality of the water has a certain standard. So as long as the water doesn't dry up and the fish (regardless of size relative to the other fishes in the pond) doesn't drown, I think we need not worry too much

At worse, if really a misfit - there is still the option of transfer. My ex-neighbour who's DD is in NYGH told me two girls from NYPS who opted to go RGS (through DSA) later decided, and managed, to transfer back to NYGH (something like within the first month of term starting).

We have already submitted the preference on Wednesday, getting the horse to say out loud his preference, and got him to do a eye ball check again before I submit it online.
The big fish in small/medium/(closed to big) pond or small fish in big pond thingy is still messing with my mind. This DS of mine is laidback, for him to end up being a small fish in big pond spur him to develop himself or will it be just making him layback further.
听天由命吧. I guess we can only help him this far, the rest will be really up to him.

Yay, we have submitted DS1's option last nite (at my sis' place)...
and yay, today is the last day of DS2's SA2 exam!
From now on is... fun x 3!!! :dancing:

Thanks all for the info and advices. Looks like a better bet is still to get them to work really hard and get a high T-score. DSA is like really meant only for the brightest
