DSA 2011

Still trying to figure out what went wrong for DS1 during the second round for NUSH and NJC, especially for NJC.
Agreed. NUSH and NJC more level playing field for mainstreamers and GEPpers. However, the numbers are still pretty \"scary\": NUSH - >2000 applicants for 150 COs, NJC - >700 applicants for 40 COs.
If you go thru' DSA as an exposure and only choose schools you really want (1-3 the most), it can be a priceless experience for your kid. If you go thru' this exercise with the push of getting a CO (I heard some parents who applied for 5-6 schools for their kids), it will be a chore for the kid and very pressurizing.
Looking at the stats it is a daunting task.
No clear guidelines have even been released on their final selection criteria.
Nobody knows whether it's based solely on performance during the second round alone, or round one results plus school results etc were taken into consideration at all. -
ngbrdad:
Seems that previous years they gave more but a lot of the COs were not taken up in the end.
NJC only gave out 40 COs this year?! That's v few. How many in their total intake per year?jtoh:

.
So this year apparently anyone with a CO or WL elsewhere were not offered any CO, and they scrapped the WL as well.
So only 40 CO were given out.
Will be interesting to see how many they take in via S1 and whether the COP may be lowered.
That sounds a little unfair to the kids who wanted NJC as first choice but tried out another school just in case. But I suppose the message is if you're not serious about the school don't try out.
Yes it'll be interesting to see how this will impact COP. -

thought is 200 ?
Number is from ngbrdad's info. NJC total intake is about 200 yearly, Usually they gave out about 100 COs (50%). Accordingly to ngbrdad, and I heard from some frens too, this year NJC seems to have reduced the number of COs drastically. And they removed the WL too.

Doesn't help that they are the last one to start and finish their DSA process.

Can't expect the kids to wait for them right ? -

Very true. And their DSA camp/interview etc is near the P6 school exams right?

Better give your feedback now then. This is the way NJC has conducted their DSA in the past few years. The admin needs time to get their act together and 2013 is soon!
