Maybe in previous years the NJC gave out COs to GEPpers and many turned them down in favour of RI/HCI etc. That’s why this year they decided not to give COS to them.

So your son is one of the rare GEP boy who did not apply for RI DSA ?
Congrats on the NJC DSA CO.

        ngbrdad,
        Thanks.
We attended the RI talk but somehow DS2 was not comfortable with RI. Too focussed on excellence that DS2 is scared. My son knows his own calibre! He is not the hardworking type, he may not survive RI! 😂 :rotflmao:

NJC gave the impression that they will focus on overall development of the kids and in fact both DH and I like what we heard very much. Only drawback was the lack of a school based gifted programme which we finally reconciled that it is not essential. We may be wrong, but oh well, that's life, cannot have best of both worlds. :xedfingers:

I quite like NJC's programme too that's why DS1 applied for the DSA.
Surprised to find out that quite a few of his GEP classmates applied too but none were successful.
What's the other school that your DS applied and what's the outcome ?[/quote]The other school which DS2 applied for is HCI which all his classmates applied for too. He did not get that. I understand that HCI and RI needs average of >80 or something like that, and DS2 definitely did not achieve that. He was very disappointed with the HCI rejection, but fortunately received the NJC CO which boosted his morale. Otherwise he would have been totally devastated.

Maybe NJC liked that fact that he did not apply for many schools and was selective?? :scratchhead: We have actually received his Hast test results from NJC and I think he did pretty well. For one of the areas, he achieved >95% percentile and another at >75% percentile. Whatever it is, he is fortunate that he has the NJC CO. Whew! 😓

How about your DS1? Which school did he apply for, and how's the outcome?

My DS is on WL for RI.
Not successful with NUSH and NJC at 2nd round.
He was around the top 3 to 4% in the Hast test overall according to the results they posted but never mind.

I'm sure your DS will get into RI, and it is the top school. Looks like Hast Test result was not what NJC was looking for.

              Hi,

Like to know how parents choose CCAs for their children in primary schools.

Is it crucial to consider DSA criteria when choosing CCAs for our children?

              Best Regards

My eldest is only P4 so I’ve yet to be at the DSA stage yet.

But I strongly believe in choosing a CCA that will potentially be useful for DSA. More like a backup plan. Provided they must also have passion for it.

Thks, you got the point…passion counts much. So is your kid’s CCA tied up with some DSA criteria of any particular school?

I put them in school band. Their school has been achieving gold with honors for syf. They started in p1 and p2 respectively but are passionate about it. I am hoping this will come into use though many said it is better to enter a school based on result if not they have to continue with band which is time consuming. But if they have passion, why not?

I have a p1 going next year and we have discussed her cca. Either cl orchestra or band.

Incidentally, my boy (P1) also raised the topic about choosing Band but I’m didn’t really put much thought into it cos’ I thought it was too early. Yes,their school band is really good. Why didn’t I check it out? Btw, my question was triggered by him tonight…I kept telling him to consider in P3…maybe should really think through. Thks & God bless!

most schools have band, but limited schools have Chinese orchestra.

If have, will be great. would like to expose my child to play gu zhen or yang qin.

does primary school teach kids play yang qin ?
(i know some schools do teach gu zhen. example: Nan Hua)
