oh, not sure if it's common. with Indo helpers, they (used to) send letters home. My Myanmese helper won't even try - she will only call home. The prepaid envelops I bought for her totally never use.
That's because the postal services in Myanmar sucks... big time. Most of the time your mail will be lost.
Opps....after yest's attempt for her to call back and she telling us that the line keep changing (unstable), I suggested for her to write home instead. -

If the maids are near the border of other countries, you can try to see if her side can receive the calls. The call quality will be much better. -
It wasn’t that bad after all cos she managed to speak on the phone for about 5mins on the 2nd attempt before the line cut off. Her township is about an hr away from Yangon.

Hi, anyone has send their Myanmar maid for any English improvement course? Any recommendation? I really have a hard time to understand my maid.
-
Language can be trained. It really depends how often you communicate with her.
-
hi, anyone train their burmese maid to speak mandarin?
-
Hi fcmaid…yes, language can be trained, but I am a working mother, 2 kids under age 5 at home with maid alone during day time.
Communication is already an issue, how to have a good chat with her? :< -

If your kids can speak to her, your maid should be able to pick up until their level at least.Hi fcmaid...yes, language can be trained, but I am a working mother, 2 kids under age 5 at home with maid alone during day time.

My own personal maid can speak english, mandarin and hokkien.
My family speaks to her in different languages so she is able to pick it up.
Sometimes they are conscious of speaking and creating a certain fear that they might be ridicule because of the words they wrongly uses. -
A little encouragement will go a long way

Hi,
I need some advice. I have a burmese maid finishing contract in July this year. She is super forgetful, communication still a problem after 2 years and I have to monitor her closely although I am a FTWM. She had made a lot of mistakes repeatedly but we still give her a chance to learn. She does not seems to improve much till now. However, she wish to continue contract with us and request for higher pay. She even want advance 2 months of salary if we allow her to go for home leave. I am now thinking whether to renew her contract with us. Headache…
